In a bid to make easy money, Masula Gaus Soddin, a resident of Thakkadupalli village in Munipalli mandal of Sangareddy district, decided to take a risky shortcut. Instead of cultivating traditional crops, he decided to grow cannabis plants, hoping the profits from illegal sales would far exceed the returns from regular crops. But his scheme ended in a legal nightmare that saw him sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of ₹25,000.
The incident traces back to April 2, 2019, when the Sangareddy Excise Police received information about the unusual crop. Acting swiftly, CI Madhubabu and SI Nagender, along with their team, conducted a raid on Soddin’s land. They discovered and seized 39 cannabis plants, confirming suspicions of illegal activity. Following the raid, a case was registered, and Soddin was arrested, initiating a lengthy legal process.
The recent court ruling came on Tuesday when the Sangareddy Additional District Chief Judge delivered the verdict, sentencing Soddin to five years in prison. This ruling is a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in illegal activities in pursuit of quick profits. The authorities have reinforced their commitment to curbing the cultivation and sale of narcotics in the district, warning others against similar practices.
This case highlights the consequences of choosing unlawful shortcuts over honest work. While the promise of quick money may seem appealing, the penalties are severe and life-altering. Soddin’s experience serves as a cautionary tale, underscoring the importance of adhering to the law and the value of hard work and legitimate earning.
