In a proactive move to curb road accidents and promote safe driving practices, the Gollaprolu Police in Kakinada district has introduced an innovative initiative that not only penalizes rule violators but also rewards those who follow safety protocols. This program, led by CI Srinivas and SSI Ramakrishna with the support of the district SP, encourages two-wheeler riders to wear helmets by recognizing their efforts with incentives.
The Pithapuram constituency, located along a busy national highway, has witnessed a high number of road accidents, resulting in severe injuries and fatalities, particularly among two-wheeler riders. To address this issue, the Pithapuram Circle Police have launched a program that combines education, penalties, and positive reinforcement.
Under this program:
- Penalties for Violators: Police personnel stationed at the Gollaprolu National Highway toll plaza conduct vehicle inspections, issuing fines to those who fail to follow safety regulations, particularly helmet laws.
- Rewards for Compliance: Riders who comply with the rules, especially those wearing helmets, receive prizes as a gesture of appreciation. This reward-based approach aims to instill a culture of safety while boosting morale among responsible motorists.
Many riders have expressed gratitude, praising the police for their positive approach to road safety. “This initiative is a great reminder of the importance of wearing helmets and has motivated more riders to adopt safe practices,” said a local biker.
CI Srinivas emphasized that this initiative aligns with the district’s broader road safety goals and reflects the commitment of the Kakinada police force to ensure the well-being of its citizens. By combining penalties with incentives, the Gollaprolu Police hope to make helmet-wearing a norm, thereby reducing accident fatalities in the region.
