India’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has voiced strong support for cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma amidst their ongoing challenges with form, ahead of India’s final Test against New Zealand on Friday. Nayar called for patience from fans and analysts, emphasizing that top players sometimes need “space and time” to regain their rhythm. Both Kohli and Rohit, who have been facing scrutiny due to a dip in form, continue to work tirelessly, Nayar shared, as India seeks to finish the series on a high after an unexpected loss in the second Test.
Nayar also addressed growing speculation around pitch conditions, especially following India’s defeat on a spin-friendly track in Pune, where they fell short by 113 runs. The third Test at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium has raised similar questions about pitch preparation. Dismissing the notion that the Indian team demands specific pitch conditions, Nayar clarified, “I wish we could curate pitches, but we don’t. The curators decide the pitches, and we simply play on what’s given to us—whether it turns or seams.”
With Nayar’s statements providing a clear perspective on both the players’ efforts and the pitch dynamics, he urged fans to remain patient. He highlighted that even the best players like Kohli and Sharma go through difficult phases and that consistent support can make a difference. “Everyone’s working really hard, whether it’s Virat, Rohit, or even young talents like Shubman Gill. Sometimes, you’ve got to be a little patient, even with the greatest of players,” Nayar added optimistically.
The upcoming Test will be a crucial moment for India to reclaim pride, and as Nayar assures, the fans may soon have more reasons to celebrate Kohli, Sharma, and the team’s achievements.
