The dream of metro rail services in Andhra Pradesh (AP) cities like Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada seems to be gaining momentum once again. As part of the state’s ongoing efforts, AP ministers, currently visiting Delhi, are pushing forward with discussions centered on these metro projects, sparking hopes for a significant announcement soon. Municipal Minister Narayana, leading the charge, recently met with Union Minister Manoharlal Khattar to discuss the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro projects.

During the meeting, Minister Narayana emphasized the need for swift action, highlighting that proposals for both projects were already submitted during the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government. He pointed out that the proposal to link Vijayawada’s metro to the capital, Amaravati, was also included. Minister Khattar responded positively, assuring that the proposal would be discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that the Centre would make a decision soon.

In addition to the metro projects, the minister brought attention to the Amrit-2 scheme, which had been pending in AP for the past five years. The AP delegation received promising responses regarding the potential revival of this scheme, adding to the sense of optimism surrounding the state’s development.

The visit to Delhi by AP’s ministers over the last two days has been focused not just on metro-related discussions, but also on securing funds for the development of Amaravati and other crucial projects. Meetings were held with various Union ministers and senior officials from different departments to ensure that AP receives the necessary financial support.

Among the key priorities discussed were loans for the construction of Amaravati and allocation of funds to municipalities across the state. The development of the capital region remains a top concern for the state leadership, as they continue to seek federal support for these ambitious projects.

As the AP government steps up its engagement with the central government, the possibility of seeing concrete progress on the metro projects in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada seems more likely than ever. With the right push and central backing, the metro dream of AP’s people could soon transform into a reality.
