The sacred Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam ritual was performed with great spiritual fervor at the Tirumala Temple on Tuesday, marking an important prelude to the upcoming Salakatla Brahmotsavam. This special cleansing ritual, conducted four times a year, serves as a purification ceremony for the entire temple complex, including the deities and puja utensils.
The Thirumanjanam ceremony began early in the morning, from 6 am to 10 am, during which an aromatic mixture called Parimalam was applied to the temple walls, roofs, and pillars. This spiritual cleansing prepares the sacred space for the grand Brahmotsavam festival. Following the ritual, special pujas and naivedyams were offered to Lord Venkateswara.
Devotees were granted darshan from noon onwards, after the temple was reopened post the completion of the ceremony. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Executive Officer, J. Shyamala Rao, emphasized the significance of the ritual in preparation for the nine-day Brahmotsavam festival, which will take place from October 4 to 12, 2024. Due to the ceremony, regular services such as Astadala Pada Padmaradhana and VIP break darshan were suspended for the day.
This annual event not only highlights the temple’s commitment to tradition but also elevates the spiritual atmosphere ahead of the grand festival.
