The Andhra Pradesh Assembly approved the Andhra Pradesh Land Titling Repeal Bill 2024 to eliminate the existing law during its session on Wednesday. Additionally, they passed the Dr YSR University of Health Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which reinstated the name of former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao to the university.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu criticized the Land Titling Act as “terrible” and harmful to the welfare of landowners in Andhra Pradesh. During a discussion on the Land Titling Act Bill, Naidu expressed dissatisfaction with the previous administration for implementing the law without thoroughly assessing its consequences.
The AP Land Titling Repeal Bill, 2024 was presented by Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad, while Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav introduced the health university bill. Both bills received unanimous support from all legislators, and Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu declared their unanimous approval. The legislative council also unanimously passed the two bills.
The Chief Minister emphasized the negative impact of the law, stating, “This law is extremely flawed. Its hasty implementation has led to numerous issues. In my Kuppam constituency, where I have been a CM, MLA, and Leader of the Opposition for 40 years, the majority of recent complaints and cases relate to land disputes due to irregularities in the past five years.”
