In a move to streamline student records and academic tracking, the central government has initiated the One Nation One Student ID system, officially termed as the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAR) ID. This initiative, part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, assigns a unique 12-digit APAR ID to every student, ensuring a unified academic record from class one through higher education.

Telangana Joins the Process

The state of Telangana is actively participating in this initiative, with APAR IDs already issued to 7.75 crore students across India. However, Telangana’s progress, as of December 18, has been slower, with only 2.10 lakh students (3% of the target) receiving their IDs. To expedite this process, the state’s Director of School Education, EV Narasimha Reddy, has issued key directives.

What Students and Schools Need to Do

The accuracy of APAR IDs relies heavily on the alignment of student details in Aadhaar and school records. To ensure this:

  1. Parents and students are encouraged to correct discrepancies in Aadhaar details first.
  2. Schools should then update the corrected details in their records by January 31.
  3. Authorities such as MEOs, gazetted principals, and Deputy EOs/DEOs have been empowered to make these changes.

The Importance of APAR ID

The APAR ID is more than just a unique identifier. It offers several benefits:

  • Unified Academic Record: Tracks a student’s academic journey from primary education to higher studies.
  • Portability: Facilitates seamless transfers between schools and states without losing records.
  • Academic Bank of Credit (ABC): Links the APAR ID to a secure digital repository for certificates and academic credits.
  • Support for Dropouts: Makes it easier to reintegrate students who rejoin education after dropping out.

A Milestone for Education

Launched in 2023, the One Nation One Student ID initiative represents a major shift in how student data is managed, enhancing both efficiency and security. For Telangana, achieving full implementation will pave the way for a more robust and transparent educational system.

With the deadline for Aadhaar and school record corrections fast approaching, students, parents, and schools are encouraged to act promptly to ensure smooth APAR ID issuance.
