PM CARES for Children: Only Half of Covid-19 Orphan Applications Approved in Three Years

In the three years since the program’s inception, only half of the applications for Covid-19 orphans submitted under the PM CARES for Children scheme were granted approval.

According to official data, in the three years since the scheme’s inception, roughly 49% of applications were accepted while others were denied.

The program, which was started at the height of Covid-19 instances in India, is intended to assist kids who, between March 11, 2020, and May 5, 2023, lost their parents, a guardian, adoptive parents, or a surviving parent due to the epidemic.

Under the program, 6,13 districts from 33 states and Union Territories submitted a total of 9,331 applications. But only 4,532 of the applications were accepted, and 4,781 were turned down. The state with the most applications was Rajasthan.
