On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Eklavya residential model schools in the Alluri Seetharama Raju (ASR) district via online mode from Ranchi, Jharkhand. Constructed at a cost of ₹40 crore, these schools are set to provide high-quality education to tribal students, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving educational access in tribal areas.
During the event, PM Modi participated in the foundation-laying ceremony for new school buildings in Hukum Peta and Ananthagiri Mandals, highlighting the importance of education in empowering tribal communities. Since the establishment of Eklavya Model Residential Schools by the central government in 2010, efforts have been made to ensure that tribal students receive quality education tailored to their unique cultural contexts.
The first Eklavya school was established in the GK Veedhi Mandal in 2011, and over the years, several others have been added. Currently, there are 28 Eklavya schools spread across the state, with 17 located in the ASR district and 11 in the Paderu division. Notable schools include those in Chintapalli, Paderu, and Araku Valley, each designed to cater specifically to the educational needs of tribal students.
While only the Chintapalli and GK Veedhi schools have their own permanent buildings, construction is underway for new facilities in other mandals, including Paderu, Koyyuru, and Dumbriguda. The PM’s inauguration of the buildings in Pedabayalu and Araku Valley, along with the foundation stone laying for Hukumpeta and Ananthagiri, marks a significant step towards enhancing educational infrastructure for tribal communities.
These Eklavya schools are not just educational institutions; they represent hope and opportunity for tribal youth, allowing them to pursue their dreams and secure a better future.
