In the midst of the current political turbulence surrounding September 17, the dispute over how to commemorate this date persists. The BJP staunchly advocates for designating September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day, while the Congress insists on celebrating it as Public Administration Day. This ideological clash has led to a protracted exchange of criticisms and accusations between the leaders of both parties.
Union Minister Bandi Sanjay has adamantly voiced opposition to recognizing September 17 as Public Governance Day, instead asserting the significance of commemorating it as Liberation Day for Telangana. Sanjay has accused the Congress of bowing to pressure from the Majlis party in making this decision.
Counteracting these claims, Congress MP Mallu Ravi contends that the merger of Hyderabad State into the nation marked the transition from monarchical rule to public administration, justifying the selection of Public Governance Day on September 17. Ravi rebuffs BJP’s involvement in the state’s merger.
As preparations for the celebrations on September 17 unfold, the BJP gears up to observe Telangana Liberation Day at the Secunderabad Parade Grounds, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah set to lead the festivities by hoisting the national flag. Meanwhile, the Congress government plans to mark Public Administration Day across Telangana, with CM Revanth Reddy leading the flag hoisting ceremony in Hyderabad and delegating similar responsibilities to ministers and ZP chairmen in the districts.
Despite the fervor surrounding September 17, the BRS party appears to maintain a distance from the escalating political tensions, diverging from the heated debates gripping the BJP and Congress.
