Prime Minister Modi and Vietnamese PM Chinh Inaugurate Army Software Park in Vietnam: Strengthening Defense Cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recently jointly inaugurated the Army Software Park at the Telecommunications University in Nha Trang, Vietnam, in a virtual ceremony. This initiative, hailed as a significant symbol of defense cooperation, was made possible with an Indian grant of $5 million. The park features 17 classrooms, 200 computers, and a state-of-the-art data center.

During a briefing by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), it was announced that both countries have signed an implementation agreement to enhance defense industry collaboration, setting the stage for a comprehensive framework. Emphasizing India’s tailored approach to defense supplies for Vietnam, Secretary (East) Mazumdar highlighted Vietnam’s interest in technology transfer for defense production.

In his address, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed the deep bond between Vietnam and India, underscoring the strong political trust shared by the two nations. He called for strengthened defense and security ties with India. Prime Minister Modi echoed these sentiments, recognizing Vietnam as a key partner in India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific strategy. He welcomed Prime Minister Chinh’s visit as a pivotal moment in strengthening bilateral relations.

Both leaders acknowledged the increasing momentum in bilateral cooperation, particularly in alignment with their shared Indo-Pacific vision. They reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace and stability in the South China Sea, emphasizing the importance of freedom of navigation for regional security.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated the commitment to a free, open, rules-based, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, underscoring the continuous collaboration between India and Vietnam towards this shared goal.
