In a remarkable achievement, a team of students from SRM University in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, has climbed Mount Everest, marking a significant milestone as the first group from a private university to reach the world’s highest peak. While climbing Everest is not uncommon, the story behind their accomplishment is one of determination, planning, and overcoming challenges.

A Journey of Determination

On October 11, 2024, eighteen students from SRM University set off from Gannavaram airport, embarking on a journey that would take them to the pinnacle of adventure—Mount Everest. Led by BTech third-year students Chandana and Siddharth Tripathi, the team aimed to leave a mark not just for themselves but also for their university.

Their trek to the summit involved covering an arduous 134 kilometers to reach the towering height of 8,848 meters (29,029 feet). Chandana shared that initially, the team believed that reaching the summit would be straightforward. However, they encountered numerous challenges, including extreme cold and altitude sickness, which led to shortness of breath.

Overcoming Challenges

Despite these hardships, the students remained committed to their goal. Chandana emphasized that their success was the result of careful planning and strong perseverance. With the support of their faculty and guidance from experienced climbers, they were able to navigate the treacherous terrain and harsh conditions that accompany an Everest ascent.

On October 20, 2024, the team proudly hoisted the Indian national flag at the summit, symbolizing not only their personal triumph but also the spirit of achievement for their university. Their accomplishment has garnered recognition and praise from the university faculty and dignitaries, celebrating their extraordinary feat.

Conclusion

The successful ascent of Mount Everest by SRM University’s team stands as a testament to the power of teamwork, resilience, and determination. As they etched their university’s name into the annals of mountaineering history, they have inspired countless others to dream big and strive for their goals, proving that with dedication and proper guidance, remarkable achievements are possible.
