Starring Vikrant Massey and Raashi Khanna, the investigative thriller revisits the haunting February 2002 Godhra tragedy, where a fire in the Sabarmati Express claimed 59 lives, many of them women and children.
Directed by Dheeraj Sharma, the film delves into the multiple perspectives and theories surrounding the tragic event. Raashi Khanna, who portrays a news reporter, admitted she initially rejected the project due to concerns about it being a propaganda piece. However, her perspective changed after reviewing the extensive research behind the film. She shared, “I had preconceived notions that it would be agenda-driven, but I’m proud now to be associated with this story.”
Both actors highlighted the challenges of participating in politically sensitive films. Vikrant acknowledged the fear of being misunderstood or criticized in a polarized environment. He remarked, “There is such a clear divide now. Even balanced opinions are risky, and people shy away from voicing them.”
Raashi, reflecting on her position as a celebrity, emphasized the need for caution. “As public figures, our words are scrutinized and can be misconstrued. It’s best to let your work speak for itself and steer clear of overt political commentary.”
The film also sheds light on Bollywood’s ongoing struggle to balance creative integrity with commercial demands. Vikrant candidly admitted, “The industry is in flux. What worked five years ago doesn’t hold today. But stories with archival value, those that provoke thought, will always have timeless appeal.”
