Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh announced plans to transform Pichuka Lanka village in Atreyapuram mandal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district into a picturesque tourism destination, highlighting its abundant natural beauty. Representatives from Oberoi company, led by Vice-Chairman R. Sankar, recently visited Pichuka Lanka in the company of Durgesh, Gorantla Buchalah Chowdary (MLA), Bandaru Satyananda Fao (MLA), and R. Mahesh Kumar (Konaseema collector). Durgesh revealed that discussions between the company representatives and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu have taken place regarding the development of the village. Notably, Oberoi company has already established luxurious villas and resorts in Gandikota, Tirupati, and Visakhapatnam.
The government’s vision includes not only enhancing tourism spots but also integrating temple tourism projects. Durgesh pointed out the prominence of Kadiyam nurseries, ranking second in Asia, and the upcoming introduction of canal boat rides in Godavari. He expressed optimism about Oberoi’s potential involvement in the state’s tourism development efforts and assured full support from himself, Naidu, and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for the establishment of their units in Pichuka Lanka.
The collector emphasized the historical and sacred temples in the two Godavari districts, underscoring their significance for pilgrims and tourists alike. Mentioning attractions such as Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy Temple in Annavaram and Eco-tourism sites in Maredumilli, he highlighted the potential benefits of constructing resorts in Pichuka Lanka. He proposed allocating 56 acres of land on the northern side of the village for tourism development, given its strategic connectivity via road, rail, and airport to attract pilgrims visiting the Godavari districts.
Chowdary highlighted the employment prospects associated with tourism projects and identified Kadiyapu Lanka as suitable for boat rides, with plans to develop Havelock Bridge as a tourism hotspot. Satya nanda Rao endorsed the idea of Konaseema and Pichuka Lanka becoming a tourism hub, underscoring the region’s potential. Representatives from Oberoi company, including Navin Goswamy and Malun Tanej, were also present during the discussions.
