The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has announced an ambitious plan to modernize the Tirumala hill town, blending advanced urban infrastructure with the preservation of its spiritual heritage. On Thursday, TTD Executive Officer J. Syamala Rao shared details of the initiative, emphasizing that as a global pilgrimage hub, Tirumala requires scientific urban planning to cater to millions of devotees who visit Lord Venkateshwara annually.

To achieve this, TTD has enlisted the expertise of a town planning advisor to ensure the project is executed with precision. The comprehensive vision document being prepared will focus on sustainable development, enhanced mobility, and improved amenities while maintaining Tirumala’s devotional atmosphere.

Key Features of the Plan:

  1. Traffic Decongestion:
Multi-level smart parking facilities with real-time monitoring technologies will be introduced to optimize parking spaces and ensure smoother vehicle flow.
  2. Pedestrian-Friendly Footpaths:
Safe and well-designed pathways will facilitate easier movement for devotees.
  3. Redevelopment of Infrastructure:
Aging structures like the APSRTC bus stand and cottages will be modernized to align with current infrastructure needs while preserving their traditional aesthetic.
  4. Energy Efficiency and Sustainability:
Measures to reduce Tirumala’s carbon footprint will be implemented, including adopting energy-efficient designs and clearing legacy waste within three months.
  5. Renaming of Rest Houses:
Around 150 sacred names are being shortlisted to rename rest houses, reflecting Tirumala’s devotional essence.
  6. Technological Integration:
Tools like Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) will be used to design urban spaces that resonate with Tirumala’s spiritual significance.

“Our vision is to make Tirumala a global benchmark for urban planning among pilgrimage centers worldwide. Every initiative will uphold its spiritual essence while embracing sustainability,” said Syamala Rao.

By blending traditional architecture with modern urban solutions, TTD’s modernization efforts aim to provide an enhanced experience for pilgrims while setting an example for other spiritual centers globally.
