In a recent interaction with the Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in Germany, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia acknowledged the incredible role that the Indian diaspora plays in shaping the country’s global image. Speaking to the NRIs, Scindia remarked that, for the first time under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there has been a significant rise in the sense of unity and belonging among Indians worldwide.
During the meeting, the NRIs shared how, despite living far from home, they have formed an “Indian family” that provides support in every possible way. This family is a mix of individuals from diverse parts of India, including Odisha, Kerala, and other regions. The network includes priests, corporate professionals, and people from various other professions. The NRIs emphasized that their collective strength lies in helping each other tackle challenges, whether big or small. Many NRIs expressed that this unity and cooperation among them were crucial in creating a support system that made them feel connected to India, no matter how far they were from home.
Several NRIs mentioned that they wished to establish similar support systems in other countries where they live, emulating the sense of community they have in Germany. This sense of togetherness and solidarity among the diaspora has undoubtedly helped foster a deeper connection to their roots.
Union Minister Scindia highlighted the importance of the NRI community in the global spotlight. He noted that the hard work, determination, and contributions of NRIs are what have led to India’s rise as a powerful and respected nation on the world stage. “You are the most important people,” Scindia said, underscoring that NRIs were instrumental in bringing global recognition to India.
He further elaborated on the significance of NRIs as ambassadors of India, emphasizing that they play a vital role in strengthening India’s position abroad. According to Scindia, NRIs have become an invaluable asset to every country they reside in, making them not only proud ambassadors of their homeland but also capital contributors to the countries they live in. “In any country, NRIs become the capital of that country,” he said, commending their contribution to both India and the nations they call home.
In an emotional conclusion to the meeting, Scindia met with an NRI who had been living in Germany for 55 years, acknowledging their long-standing commitment to both their home country and their adopted one.
The Union Minister’s remarks underscore the integral role that NRIs play in fostering India’s global presence and the growing unity among the diaspora that continues to contribute to the country’s cultural and economic prosperity.
