The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) issued a show cause notice to Puja Manorama Dilip Khedkar, a candidate provisionally recommended for the Civil Services Examination-2022 (CSE-2022), on July 18. The notice was based on allegations that Khedkar had fraudulently exceeded the permissible number of attempts by falsifying her identity, as stated in an official communication.

Initially, Khedkar was required to respond to the notice by July 25. However, she requested an extension until August 4 to gather the necessary documentation for her reply. The UPSC reviewed her request and, in the interest of fairness, granted an extension until 3:30 pm on July 30 for her to submit her response. Khedkar was explicitly informed that this extension was final, and no further delays would be tolerated.

Clear instructions were given that failure to provide a response by the specified deadline would result in further action by the UPSC without any additional consideration. Despite the extra time granted to her, Khedkar missed the deadline to submit her explanation.
