The markets were lively with fervent devotees observing Varalakshmi Vratam on Friday. However, exorbitant prices somewhat dimmed the shopping excitement. Puja material stalls, especially those selling fruits, flowers, textiles, and gold, were bustling with activity. The flower and fruit outlets in Rythu bazaars were brimming with customers despite the inflated prices. Similarly, the gold and textile stores lining the city’s main streets drew large crowds. The marketplaces were bustling from morning till noon, causing congestion on the main roads.

Chrysanthemums (chamantulu), usually priced at 2400 per kg in the Rythu bazaars, were being sold at 2600 per kg due to scarcity. Apples were priced at 300 per kg, pomegranates at two pieces for 100, and oranges at four for ₹100. The cost of a dozen small bananas surged to 100, exceeding the usual price of 70 in the Rythu bazaars. Despite the steep prices, eager buyers continued to throng the markets.

On that Friday, 22-carat gold was fixed at 6,555. A one-gram coin was priced at ₹7,350, inclusive of a 9% making charge, totaling 7,350 per gram. The jewelry shops were filled with customers, some of whom waited up to half an hour to settle their bills, highlighting the bustling and time-consuming atmosphere of the markets during the festival.
