The Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet has approved deputation of Chirumamilla Venkaiah Chowdary, a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS), officer to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), the trust responsible for managing the renowned Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirumala.
Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India, issued an official order confirming this decision on Tuesday.
Following this, the AP government has appointed Venkaiah Chowdary as the joint executive officer (JEO) of the TTD. The central officer’s deputation with the state government will be for a period of three years.Chowdary’s appointment is significant, as he is considered to be close to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. It may be recalled that the CM promised to “cleanse” the TTD, allegedly plagued by irregularities during the past five years.
The action is viewed as a step in achieving Telugu Desam’s pledge to implement trust administrative reforms.
Venkaiah Chowdary was the vice chairman and managing director of the AP Mineral Development Corporation under the former Telugu Desam government. In 2016, he enlisted in the state service and served in this capacity for three years. Nevertheless, Chowdary rejoined his parent IRS group after the 2019 political shift.
