The Andhra Pradesh Air Travellers Association has reported a notable increase in air traffic at Visakhapatnam Airport, with a 6.8% uptick in flight numbers during the second quarter of fiscal year 2024-25. From July to September 2024, a total of 702,787 passengers traveled through the airport, showcasing steady growth compared to the same period last year. Aircraft movements also saw a jump, with 5,398 recorded flights, up from 5,052 in the previous year.
The month-by-month breakdown reveals strong performance: in July, 1,720 flights carried 225,261 passengers; in August, 1,872 flights served 252,311 passengers; and in September, 1,806 flights accommodated 225,215 passengers. This growth is attributed to increased demand for air travel, coupled with improved connectivity options available at Visakhapatnam Airport.
International flights have also seen high occupancy rates, with flights to Kuala Lumpur operating at 95% capacity and those to Bangkok at 85-90% capacity, underscoring the airport’s rising importance as a travel hub in the region. The Andhra Pradesh Air Travellers Association’s president, K. Kumar Raja, expressed optimism about these trends, noting that both the increase in flights and passenger numbers reflect the airport’s enhanced facilities and its efforts to provide travelers with more destination options.
“This upward trend in air traffic reflects not only the demand for air travel but also the concerted efforts to improve connectivity and amenities at Visakhapatnam Airport,” said Kumar Raja. He expressed confidence that the airport’s growth trajectory would continue, further bolstering regional and international connectivity for Andhra Pradesh.
