Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi inaugurated a dedicated Road Traffic Victim Assistance Cell during the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on Sunday. The event, held to honor and remember road traffic victims, featured a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, impactful placards, and awareness demonstrations.

During his address, Commissioner Bagchi shared promising updates on the city’s road safety efforts. Fatal accidents have dropped significantly from 32 to 16, and road deaths decreased from 32 to 19. He also celebrated a remarkable rise in helmet compliance from a mere 10% to over 50%, with a determined vision to achieve 100%.

One of the event’s highlights was the announcement of an AI-driven initiative to enhance traffic law enforcement. The project will use number plate recognition technology to identify violators, with fines sent directly to offenders—marking a leap toward smarter, safer roads in the city.

The newly launched Road Traffic Victim Assistance Cell is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing all-round support to families affected by accidents, especially those who lose their primary breadwinners. Available 24/7, the public can access these critical services through the helpline 7995095799.

With these efforts, Visakhapatnam sets an inspiring example in reducing road fatalities and supporting victims, reaffirming its commitment to road safety and community welfare.
