The Vizag Junior Literary Fest (VJLF) is returning for its fifth edition, bringing together young enthusiasts for a two-day celebration of literature and theatre on November 23 and 24, 2024. Organized by the Lit Lantern for Culture & Literature Welfare Society, a registered non-profit organization, this year’s festival promises a rich lineup of activities designed to spark creativity and a love for reading among children aged 4 to 16.

Held at the scenic Hawa Mahal Beach Road, the festival will host 60 sessions, featuring 19 speakers from around the world. Renowned personalities such as Roopa Pai, Kapil Pandey, and Jeeva Raghunath will lead storytelling sessions, creative workshops, and panel discussions. Since its inception in 2018, VJLF has attracted over 3,000 participants, building an inclusive space where both children and adults can bond over a shared love of stories.

A unique aspect of this year’s event is a special outreach program on November 22, where storytellers will visit municipal schools to introduce young students to the joys of literature and storytelling. This outreach initiative exemplifies the fest’s mission to make literature accessible to all.

Festival highlights include adaptations of classic tales from the Panchatantra and Indian folklore, like “Vikram and Betaal,” performed by Pune’s Swatantra Theatre Group. Additionally, there will be dramatized readings, creative writing workshops, and storytelling-based teacher training. Attendees can also explore a book fair showcasing Indian publishers, making it a comprehensive experience for young readers.

Amid a growing digital landscape, the festival’s organizers emphasize the importance of literature and theatre as tools to develop critical thinking and empathy in young minds. By fostering an early appreciation for reading, they hope to inspire future generations to be thoughtful and tolerant individuals.

Registrations for this year’s sessions will open on October 19, from 11 am to 6 pm. Don’t miss this opportunity to immerse your child in a world of stories, creativity, and learning!
