As Navaratri and Dasara approach, Visakhapatnam is gearing up for a vibrant series of Dandiya events that promise to bring the city alive with dance, music, and cultural celebrations. Event managers across Vizag have lined up a host of Dandiya nights at various venues during the festive Navaratri evenings. Dandiya, the high-energy dance that brings people together, has already captivated the youth of Vizag, with workshops ensuring that all enthusiasts are ready to hit the dance floor with synchronized moves.
Several communities, including those from Rajasthan and Gujarat, are contributing to the festive fervor by organizing traditional nine-night Dandiya events at prominent locations such as Turner’s Choultry Jagadamba Centre, NAD Kotta Road, and Yendada. Marwari and Gujarati communities will begin each night with pooja ceremonies, honoring their customs, before performing traditional folk dances to lively music. Bipin Jain, GVMC corporator from Ward 31, shared that these vibrant events will showcase authentic customs and rituals, making it a cultural treat for all.
One of the major highlights of the season is the Shining Stars Dandiya Night happening on Saturday at Fortune Inn, Diamond Park. This four-hour extravaganza will feature a live orchestra and traditional Garba music, accompanied by dance competitions, lucky draws, food stalls, and photo booths, promising an unforgettable experience for attendees.
For those looking for a unique twist, the Neon Disco Dandiya at Novotel Hotel on October 9 is the place to be. With glow-in-the-dark wristbands, neon-colored Dandiya sticks, live music, and dhol beats, this event is set to be a visual and auditory spectacle. Special prizes will be awarded to the best dancers and the most traditionally dressed participants, adding an exciting competitive edge to the night.
To ensure inclusivity, the organizers from Ladies Circle India and Round Table India have announced that Telugu songs will also be played, allowing Telugu speakers to join in the Dandiya fun with songs in their native language. Vikas Bhatia, coordinator of the Dandiya Night, added that this event will support a noble cause—raising funds to construct four classrooms in a remote village in Vizianagaram district.
From traditional ceremonies to neon-lit dance floors, Vizag’s Dandiya nights are sure to be the highlight of this year’s Navaratri celebrations, blending cultural heritage with modern entertainment.
