The Waltair Division of East Coast Railway has introduced a new QR code-based payment system across all Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) locations under its jurisdiction. Passengers can now easily make digital payments for ticket purchases through popular UPI-based apps, aligning with Indian Railways’ mission to foster a cashless and Digital India ecosystem.
“We have launched extensive awareness campaigns to educate passengers about this QR code ticketing facility,” said Saurabh Prasad, Divisional Railway Manager of Waltair. “Now, passengers can enjoy a hassle-free digital transaction experience without standing in queues at ticket counters.” The innovative QR code technology is particularly beneficial for last-minute travelers, allowing them to purchase unreserved tickets digitally and save valuable time.
The QR code system also enhances the ticket-checking process. Railway officials now carry handheld terminals, enabling passengers to settle fines on the spot by scanning QR codes, further simplifying the process. Beyond ticketing, this convenient facility has been extended to other services, including parking and food counters, enabling passengers to complete transactions by simply scanning designated codes.
With this QR code-based digital payment system, the Waltair Division aims to enhance the overall passenger experience while supporting the nationwide transition towards a cashless, digital economy. This initiative not only makes travel smoother and more efficient but also marks a significant step toward modernizing railway services in India.
