The final second Test match between India and Bangladesh teams was set to commence in Kanpur today. According to the schedule, the match was supposed to kick off at 9:30 am with the toss scheduled for 9 am. However, the meteorological department’s prediction of rain in Kanpur has become a reality, leading to a delay in the toss.
Covers have been placed on the field to protect it from the rain, but even though the rain has currently ceased, the covers are yet to be removed, leaving the match start time uncertain.
This Test match marks a significant event as Kanpur hosts a Test match after nearly 1000 days. Team India’s last Test match at Green Park Stadium was against New Zealand in 2021. Now, they are gearing up to face Bangladesh, but the match’s continuity is threatened by the persistent rain.
Players were unable to practice adequately the day before the match due to the rainy weather, and the ongoing rain on match day has caused further delays. The weather forecast for the next five days indicates a high chance of thundershowers on the initial day with dense cloudy conditions, reducing the likelihood of a match.
The Meteorological Department’s report suggests a 50 to 80 percent chance of rain, particularly after the first session. Lightning and thundershowers are anticipated on the second day, with rain expected on the third day, Sunday morning. However, clear weather is predicted for the fourth and fifth days of the match, ensuring minimal disruptions.
