Team India faced an unfortunate setback on the second day of the Test match against New Zealand in Bangalore. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant suffered a knee injury, raising concerns about his availability for the rest of the match. The injury is particularly alarming as it affects the same knee that was recently operated on.

Rishabh Pant’s Injury Update: What Happened?

Pant’s injury occurred while he was fielding during New Zealand’s batting session on the second day of the Test. The incident took place when he was attempting to collect a ball bowled by Ravindra Jadeja. Despite wearing protective gear, the ball struck a part of his knee that wasn’t covered by the pad, causing Pant to collapse in pain. The Indian team’s physio was immediately called to the field, and after assessing the situation, Pant was taken off. He appeared to be in significant discomfort and was unable to walk unaided, further fueling worries about the seriousness of the injury.

Rohit Sharma’s Update on Pant’s Condition

After the day’s play, Team India captain Rohit Sharma gave an important update on Pant’s condition. Speaking to the media, Rohit confirmed that Pant’s knee had swollen up following the impact. He explained that since Pant had recently undergone surgery on that knee, the team did not want to take any unnecessary risks. Rohit mentioned that the team is hopeful for Pant’s recovery but emphasized that they won’t be rushing him back into action, leaving his participation in the remainder of the Test in doubt.

Uncertainty Looms for Team India

Rohit Sharma’s comments suggest that Team India is adopting a cautious approach with Pant’s injury. With knee swelling and concerns over aggravating the post-surgery condition, it is still unclear whether Pant will return to the field during the Bangalore Test. In the meantime, Dhruv Jurel has taken over wicket-keeping duties for the team.

The Impact on Team India

Pant’s injury comes at a crucial time for India, with the team already struggling to find its form in the ongoing Test. India’s batting and bowling performances on the second day left much to be desired, and Pant’s absence only adds to the team’s woes. His explosive batting and dynamic presence behind the stumps have made him a key player for the side, and missing him for the remainder of the Test could hamper India’s chances.
