England’s veteran batsman, Joe Root, continues to make history in Test cricket. In the second Test against Sri Lanka, Root showcased his exceptional talent by scoring a century in just 162 balls, supported by 13 boundaries. This remarkable feat allowed Root to surpass Alastair Cook as the highest run-scorer in Tests on English soil.
Root’s century marked his 33rd in Test cricket, equaling Cook’s record for the most Test centuries for England. With this achievement, Root now stands as the top active batsman with 33 centuries, surpassing even Kane Williamson. Additionally, Root ranks second among active international cricketers in terms of centuries, trailing behind only Virat Kohli.
Furthermore, Root became the fifth batsman to achieve the highest number of 50 plus scores in Tests, breaking Sivanarayana Chandrapal’s record by reaching this milestone 97 times. Currently, Root holds the seventh position globally in the list of highest run-scorers in Test cricket and is the second highest run-scorer for England, following Cook’s impressive record of 12472 runs.
Given Root’s exceptional form, it is evident that he is on track to break more records in the near future.
