Prime Minister Narendra Modi, amidst his three-day visit to Brunei and Singapore, extended his support to the athletes who excelled in the Paris Paralympics 2024. The visit commenced with a warm welcome from the Prince of Brunei at the airport, followed by a dignified guard of honour. The Prime Minister inaugurated the Indian High Commission office and took the opportunity to connect with the athletes over a phone call, expressing his admiration and best wishes for their future endeavors.

During his interaction with one of the athletes, Yogesh, the Prime Minister learned about the challenges faced by the athlete’s mother, including updates on her cervical disease. Commending the athlete’s dedication, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the relentless efforts that brought them to such remarkable achievements. Yogesh, deeply touched by the Prime Minister’s concern, expressed gratitude for the support received even during the foreign visit.

In a statement, Prime Minister Modi reiterated his unwavering commitment to India, emphasizing that his thoughts are always with the country regardless of his global presence. Despite the official engagements abroad, he continued to motivate the Paris Paralympic athletes through personal interactions. Notably, the Prime Minister reached out to Avani Lekhara, who was unable to converse during a previous call due to her participation in a competition, to convey his well wishes directly.

India’s stellar performance at the Paris Paralympics 2024 has been commendable, with a total of 16 medals secured. Among the notable victories, Yogesh Kathunia clinched the bronze medal in Men’s Discus Throw F56 Athletics, while Sumit and Antil achieved gold in javelin throw F64.
