In a surprising turn of events, Rashid Khan, the star player of the Afghanistan cricket team, has announced a long break from Test cricket. This decision comes ahead of the only Test match scheduled between Afghanistan and New Zealand, set to take place from September 9 in Greater Noida, India.

Rashid Khan, who recently underwent back surgery following the ODI World Cup in India, has been advised rest and recovery by the team management. Despite his remarkable performance in the T20 World Cup, leading the team to the semifinals, Rashid has opted to prioritize his health and well-being by stepping away from Test cricket for the foreseeable future.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board has confirmed that Rashid Khan will be absent from Test cricket for the next six months to a year, citing the need for him to manage his bowling workload effectively. With his focus shifting towards the upcoming one-day series against South Africa, Rashid’s absence from the Test format is a strategic decision to ensure his availability and performance in limited-overs cricket.

Having played five Tests, 103 ODIs, and 93 T20Is for Afghanistan, Rashid Khan has been a key figure in the team’s success across formats. His remarkable bowling record in Test cricket, with 34 wickets in five matches at an average of 22.35, highlights his prowess as a match-winner.

The Afghanistan Test squad, led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, has been announced for the upcoming match against New Zealand, featuring a talented lineup of players ready to showcase their skills on the international stage.

Stay tuned for more updates on Rashid Khan’s cricketing journey and the latest developments in the world of Afghanistan cricket.
