Sarfaraz Khan created history at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow during the Irani Cup 2024 match between Mumbai and Rest of India. Batting at number 6, Sarfaraz showcased exceptional skill and determination as he scored a breathtaking double century in just 253 balls, setting a new milestone for Mumbai cricket.
The match began with Rest of India captain Ruthuraj Gaekwad opting to bowl after winning the toss. Mumbai’s opening pair of Prithvi Shah and Ayush faced early setbacks, but the team found stability through the innings-building efforts of Shreyas Iyer and captain Ajinkya Rahane. Sarfaraz Khan’s arrival at the crease marked a turning point as he anchored the innings alongside Rahane, guiding Mumbai past the 400-run mark.
Despite the early dismissal of Rahane on Day 2, Sarfaraz Khan continued to dominate the opposition bowlers with his aggressive stroke play, ultimately reaching his double century with an impressive display of 23 fours and 3 sixes. This remarkable feat not only secured a commanding total of 484 runs for Mumbai but also etched Sarfaraz’s name in Mumbai cricket history as the first player to achieve a double century in the Irani Cup.
