A surprising case of drug smuggling has come to light at the Visakhapatnam Central Jail, exposing the involvement of a staff member. Pharmacist Kadiam Srinivasa Rao, employed in the jail, was caught red-handed attempting to sneak marijuana into the prison concealed in a tiffin box.

Uncovering the Smuggling Attempt

The incident came to light when jail authorities, acting on suspicion, conducted a thorough inspection. To their shock, they discovered 95 grams of ganja inside the tiffin box. The officials promptly seized the contraband and alerted the local police. The Arilova police, led by CI Malleswara Rao, arrested Srinivasa Rao and launched an investigation into the matter.

The Modus Operandi

According to reports, Kadiam Srinivasa Rao had been working in the prison for the past one and a half years on deputation. During his tenure, he reportedly started smuggling ganja for inmates. Upon questioning, Srinivasa Rao admitted to supplying marijuana to Gurrala Sai, a remand prisoner and rowdy-sheeter.

The investigations revealed that Srinivasa Rao acted as a middleman for external suppliers and facilitated the transfer of drugs to inmates, operating under the pretense of routine duties.

Police Action

The Arilova police are now focusing on identifying the external network supplying the ganja to Srinivasa Rao. Authorities are determined to dismantle the entire operation, ensuring that all parties involved face strict action.

Breach of Trust

This incident has raised serious concerns about the integrity of jail staff and the security measures in place to prevent contraband from entering prisons. The discovery of a staff member enabling illegal activities has left jail authorities reevaluating their protocols.

Conclusion

The arrest of Srinivasa Rao underscores the need for stricter oversight in jails. Authorities must implement stronger measures to prevent similar breaches and maintain the sanctity of the correctional system.

In a tragic and disturbing incident in Satya Sai district, five individuals, including three minors, have been arrested in connection with the gang rape of two women at a construction site near Nallabommanipalli. The victims, a 45-year-old mother-in-law and her 22-year-old daughter-in-law, were assaulted in the presence of their husbands. The family, who had migrated from Bellary, Karnataka, in search of work, was brutally attacked by a six-member gang.

The accused reportedly arrived on two motorcycles in the early hours of Saturday, forced entry into the mill, and assaulted the two men before committing the heinous crime. Afterward, they fled, stealing a mobile phone and cash amounting to ₹5,200.

Special teams from the Andhra Pradesh Police sprang into action and, within 48 hours, apprehended five suspects. The arrests included E. Nagendra alias Robo, a repeat offender from Tyagaraja Nagar in Hindupur with over 37 previous cases, and Sake Praveen Kumar, also from Hindupur, who has a history of violent crimes, including murder. Authorities have confirmed that one adult suspect, C. Sreenivasulu, remains at large.

During a press conference, State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, alongside DGP Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao and IG (Law & Order) Sreekanth, emphasized the state’s unwavering commitment to the safety of women and children. Anitha highlighted the swift response of law enforcement, despite the police force’s significant commitments to security during the Devi Navaratris and Brahmotsavams.

Anitha also revealed that trials for such cases will be expedited in special courts to ensure timely justice. The state is moving toward enhanced security measures, including the installation of CCTV cameras in high-risk areas such as temples, educational institutions, and public places. In addition, drones will be deployed in regions with limited CCTV coverage. She urged the public to report incidents through emergency numbers 112 or 100, assuring complete anonymity and protection for whistleblowers.

This tragic case has brought forth renewed urgency from the government to reinforce its stance against violence towards women and children, further committing to stringent punishment for offenders to ensure justice is served.
