The Telangana Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) notification for November 2024 was recently released, bringing excitement to teaching aspirants across the state. Initially, the application process was set to begin on November 5. However, due to unexpected technical challenges, the Telangana Education Department has announced a postponement. Eligible candidates can now apply online starting November 7, with the application period extending until November 20, 2024. The TET exams are scheduled to be conducted from January 1 to January 20, 2025, at designated centers.

Why Was the Application Process Delayed?

In a statement issued by the School Education Department, officials explained that due to technical issues, they were unable to upload the detailed notification on the official website. As a result, they postponed the application start date to ensure a smooth process for all applicants.

New Fee Policy and Candidate Concerns

The application fee for the first TET exam held this year saw a significant increase, rising from Rs. 400 to Rs. 1000, leading to widespread concerns among candidates. In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy clarified that the fee could not be reduced immediately due to the Election Code in effect. However, he assured candidates that those who did not pass the previous TET exam could apply for this cycle at no additional cost. Notably, in the last TET exam, around 2.35 lakh candidates appeared, with only 1.09 lakh passing. The remaining candidates can now reapply free of charge, while new applicants must pay the revised fee.

TET Exam Structure and Eligibility

The Telangana TET comprises two papers:

  • Paper 1 is intended for candidates aiming for Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) positions in primary schools.
  • Paper 2 is geared toward candidates targeting School Assistant (SA) roles in high schools.

Each paper has 150 marks, with qualification criteria as follows:

  • OC (Open Category): 90 marks
  • BC (Backward Class): 75 marks
  • Other Categories: 60 marks

Passing the TET is a prerequisite for the DSC exam, with the TET score being valid for a lifetime. Additionally, TET marks carry a 20% weightage in the DSC selection process, prompting many candidates to reattempt the TET to improve their scores.

Revanth Sarkar’s Vision for TET

Since Revanth Sarkar assumed office, the Telangana government has committed to conducting the TET exam biannually. This change is part of his administration’s larger vision to enhance educational standards and teaching opportunities in the state. With this notification being the second one issued this year, the government is focused on creating regular opportunities for aspiring teachers.

Looking Ahead:
As the application process resumes, the education sector anticipates a high number of applicants. While discussions around fee adjustments persist, the government’s decision to waive fees for repeat candidates has been met with relief.
