Visakhapatnam, November 25: Rains continue to affect Andhra Pradesh as the state braces for another round of heavy weather. Despite the arrival of winter, the rainfall has shown no signs of slowing down. The Meteorological Center has issued an alert, predicting heavy rainfall for the next three days due to a low-pressure system in the South-East Bay of Bengal. The system, which formed in the South Andaman Sea, intensified into a severe depression on Sunday night, and by Monday, it is expected to become a cyclone.

Cyclone Formation and Impact

The low-pressure system is currently moving from the west to the northwest and is forecasted to strengthen into a cyclone in the South Bay of Bengal. The cyclone is predicted to bring heavy rains to coastal districts from Wednesday to Saturday. Visakhapatnam and other coastal areas will experience light to moderate rains, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in certain parts. The Meteorological Center has warned farmers and the general public to take necessary precautions as the weather system continues to develop.

Projected Path and Landfall

The system is expected to move further north-westward and cross the coast of Tamil Nadu, heading toward Sri Lanka by Wednesday evening, November 27. The cyclone’s winds are expected to bring rain to the southern coastal districts, particularly Nellore and Prakasam. The heavy rainfall will also affect other areas due to the cyclone’s proximity.

Wind and Sea Conditions

The wind speeds along the south coast are expected to increase, with winds blowing at 35 to 50 kmph along the coastline, and gusts reaching up to 65 kmph. The Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Center has issued a strong advisory, warning that the sea will be rough starting Tuesday. Fishermen have been advised to stay off the waters until November 29 due to the dangerous conditions.

Cold Weather Alert

In addition to the rain, cold winds have begun sweeping across the state, leading to lower-than-average temperatures in the mornings. The Meteorological Center has warned that temperatures will continue to drop in the coming days, particularly in Telangana, where the cold is increasing steadily. The public is advised to take extra precautions against the cold as the weather conditions intensify.

Conclusion

Andhra Pradesh and surrounding areas are preparing for a challenging few days as heavy rains, strong winds, and cold weather take hold. With the cyclone developing in the Bay of Bengal, authorities have issued multiple warnings, urging residents, particularly along the coast, to remain cautious and heed safety advisories.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Amaravathi has announced that a fresh upper air cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 20. According to the IMD, this system is likely to develop into a low-pressure area over the Central Bay of Bengal by October 22, after which it is expected to move northwestwards and intensify further.

The IMD also noted the persistence of a well-marked low-pressure area over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north coastal Tamil Nadu. This cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level and is tilting southwestwards. It is predicted to move west-northwestwards and weaken into a low-pressure system soon.

Meanwhile, private weather website Skymet has also issued a report stating that the cyclonic circulation forming over the North Andaman Sea may have the potential to evolve into a tropical storm. According to Skymet, the system is expected to move across the Myanmar-Thailand region and enter the east-central Bay of Bengal by October 19 or 20. As it moves towards the central parts of the Bay of Bengal, the circulation is likely to strengthen further.

The forecast highlights that conditions in the Indian seas are conducive for low-pressure systems to develop into tropical storms. The potential for intensification is heightened by the availability of oceanic heat and sufficient sea travel. As a result, the entire coastline from Odisha, West Bengal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar could be vulnerable to the impact of this potential storm, urging coastal regions to stay alert and prepared.
