“Many of the inspected schools were found in violation of CBSE’s affiliation by-laws by enrolling students who did not attend classes, effectively creating ‘dummy enrolments,'” said CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta. The board is taking these violations seriously, having issued show cause notices to the schools in question and considering legal action for non-compliance, Gupta added.

In a separate development, authorities in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, have ordered eight private schools to refund ₹54.26 crore in excess fees charged to students. A district-level committee, led by Jabalpur District Collector Deepak Saxena, has instructed the schools to return the illegally collected fees to 74,369 students within 30 days.
