The iconic Taj Mahal’s main dome experienced water leakage over the last three days due to heavy rain, leading to flooding in a garden on the premises. A video showing the submerged garden quickly spread online, capturing the attention of visitors. Despite initial concerns, a senior official from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in Agra clarified that the dome’s integrity remains intact, attributing the leakage to seepage.

Rajkumar Patel, a key figure at the ASI in Agra, confirmed the leakage and reassured that no structural damage occurred. The site was inspected using a drone camera to assess the situation. Additionally, a brief video circulating on social media depicted a garden at the Taj Mahal submerged in rainwater, drawing interest from tourists.

Local stakeholders emphasized the significance of preserving the Taj Mahal, a vital asset for Agra and the nation, as it sustains local employment and bolsters the tourism sector. Concerns over waterlogging in various parts of Agra due to continuous rainfall prompted authorities to close schools for safety reasons.

Adani Gangavaram Port has mobilized specialized teams and advanced equipment to aid Visakhapatnam city in the clearance of storm drains and crucial flow paths, with the aim of mitigating the impact of heavy rainfall brought on by a deep depression over North Andhra Pradesh. This initiative comes as Visakhapatnam’s GVMC municipal teams have been redirected to assist in relief operations in Vijayawada, which has been dealing with severe flooding since August 3. The port’s deployed teams have intervened to ensure that the main roads of Visakhapatnam continue to function smoothly, thereby decreasing the chances of water accumulation and floods. The city has been grappling with flooding since August 31. Efforts have commenced in Pedagantyada and Gajuwaka, key areas crucial for averting water buildup and sustaining essential road activities amidst adverse weather conditions. A spokesperson for the port mentioned on Thursday that through the deployment of specialized teams and equipment, the port is aiding in the clearance of storm drains, safeguarding Visakhapatnam’s infrastructure from the persistent heavy rainfall.

The Amaravati Meteorological Center has informed that heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur in some districts of Andhra Pradesh in the next 24 hours due to the influence of low pressure. There are chances of gusty winds blowing at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour on the coast. The aftermath of Varuna’s recent destruction in Andhra Pradesh still looms large, with the formation of another low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. An orange alert has been issued for Alluri district, Parvathipuram Manyam district, and Eluru district, while a yellow alert covers Vizianagaram, Visakha, Anacapalli, Srikakulam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Konaseema, NTR, and Palnadu districts.

The Director of Visakha Cyclone Warning Center has advised fishermen to refrain from fishing in the sea for three days. NTR District Collector Srijana has been alerted to the severity of the impending weather conditions, prompting orders to close all government and private schools in the district on Friday with strict penalties for violators.

Despite the state government’s relief efforts in flood-affected areas, residents continue to struggle, especially in inner colonies and remote regions where relief distribution remains insufficient. Flooded areas are experiencing power outages, forcing victims to stay put out of fear of theft. The situation is dire in agricultural regions like Lankan villages, where thousands of hectares of crops have been destroyed, leaving farmers in need of government assistance.

The northern states of India are currently bearing the brunt of Varuna’s wrath as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc. The lives of people in these states have been severely disrupted, with essential services being compromised. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings predicting ongoing heavy rains in the region for the next 24 hours.

Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Manipur are experiencing relentless downpours, transforming villages into waterlogged landscapes resembling ponds. Gujarat, in particular, is facing a deluge, with non-stop rain causing distress among the populace. Authorities are conducting evacuations in low-lying areas to ensure the safety of residents. Valsad recorded a staggering 12 cm of rainfall in a single night, while Surat’s River Tapi surged dangerously.

In Manipur, the situation is equally dire, with many families seeking refuge in relief camps as floodwaters encroach upon their homes. The incessant rains have led to the submergence of houses and disruption of normal life. Transportation has been severely impacted, with roads submerged and traffic halted in several areas.

Meanwhile, in Rajasthan, Varuna’s presence is felt through the overflowing Foysagar lake in Ajmer. The sight of the once-dry lake now brimming with water has brought relief to many, alleviating water scarcity concerns in the desert state.

The Indian Meteorological Department has raised alarms for several states, including a red alert for Gujarat and warnings for North Eastern states like Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha, and Delhi. Alerts of varying severity have been issued, signaling the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rains in the coming days.

In Odisha, a prolonged spell of rain is forecasted, with the IMD predicting three days of continuous downpour due to a surface trough extending from south Uttar Pradesh to the Bay of Bengal. Orange alerts have been issued for the northern districts of Odisha, emphasizing the need for preparedness and caution.

As the monsoon fury continues unabated, the affected states brace themselves for further challenges posed by nature’s relentless downpours.

Officials reported that unusually intense rainfall hit the districts of Jaisalmer, Pali, and Jodhpur in Rajasthan over the past 24 hours, resulting in localized flooding. Disaster response teams have been dispatched to the affected areas equipped with specialized equipment like mud pumps and tankers to aid in water removal and offer assistance to residents.

The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur noted substantial rainfall levels in specific areas, with Mohangarh and Bhaniyana in Jaisalmer district receiving 260 mm and 206 mm of rainfall, respectively, by 8:30 am. Similarly, Pali recorded 257 mm of rain, while Dechu in Jodhpur district saw 246 mm during the same timeframe.

The Meteorological office warned of a cyclonic circulation affecting Gangetic West Bengal and nearby Bangladesh, along with an active monsoon trough that could bring further heavy rainfall across various parts of the state. Specifically, regions like Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar in the sub-Himalayan districts are expected to experience heavy rain until August 9, with potential landslides being a concern in hill areas like Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

Additionally, forecasts indicate that Jharkhand may also face heavy rainfall for the next couple of days due to the influence of a monsoon trough.
