]]>A New Operation: Footpath Encroachment in Focus
HYDRA’s latest initiative is designed to address one of the city’s most pressing issues—footpath encroachment. This problem has been identified as a significant factor contributing to Hyderabad’s notorious traffic congestion. Footpaths in many parts of the city have been taken over by illegal constructions, forcing pedestrians to walk on busy roads, further worsening the traffic situation.
HYDRA Commissioner Ranganath, in a meeting with Traffic Commissioner Vishwaprasad, outlined the action plan for Operation Footpath. Notices will be issued to those responsible for encroachments, and in cases where they fail to comply, bulldozers will be deployed to demolish illegal constructions. The goal is to ensure that footpaths are restored for public use, helping reduce congestion and allowing citizens to walk safely.
Partnership with Traffic Department and DRF Teams
HYDRA’s efforts are not limited to removing encroachments. The agency is also working closely with the traffic department to develop a comprehensive approach to traffic management in Hyderabad. As part of this collaboration, DRF (Disaster Response Force) teams will receive specialized training in traffic control and clearing footpath obstructions. This multi-departmental effort is aimed at tackling the problem from various angles.
During monsoon season, footpath encroachments also contribute to flooding issues. To address this, HYDRA and the traffic department plan to install high-power motors at waterlogging points and ensure rapid removal of water to prevent disruptions during heavy rains. Additionally, they will remove debris from flood canals and pipes, lay new drainage lines, and implement measures to prevent future flooding.
Ensuring Safe Walkways for Hyderabad’s Citizens
Another key objective of Operation Footpath is to create safe and usable footpaths across the city. In partnership with GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) and traffic departments, HYDRA aims to construct new footpaths and restore existing ones so that citizens can walk safely without the fear of encroachments or obstructive structures. The plan also includes clearing potentially dangerous trees and branches that pose a threat to both pedestrians and vehicles, especially during bad weather.
A Broader Vision: Making Hyderabad Traffic-Free
HYDRA’s long-term vision is to transform Hyderabad into a traffic-free city, with contributions from various departments and the participation of the people. The agency believes that by addressing footpath encroachments, improving pedestrian safety, and implementing a coordinated traffic control strategy, the city can achieve a smoother, more efficient flow of vehicles.
The success of Operation Footpath is expected to significantly reduce traffic jams, ensure the safety of pedestrians, and enhance the overall quality of life for Hyderabad’s residents. HYDRA’s commitment to improving the urban landscape is clear, and with strong collaboration from various stakeholders, Hyderabad could soon become a model for traffic management in other cities.

Even at night, the devotees were not tired. They looked as excited as they were when the procession started, till the immersion. The surroundings of Tank Bund were resounding with Kolatas and dances. No matter which way you look, you will be enchanted by Ekadantudi’s bhajans. Devotees bade farewell to Bojja Ganapayya with great devotion. On the occasion of the immersion, the Tankbund and the Secretariat were brightly lit.
Hussain Sagar feasted the eyes with the shores of Ganpaiyas in the lights of lamps. Till night more than 5 lakh idols of Ganesha were immersed in GHMC. The immersion is taking place near the tank bund amidst devotees. Thousands of devotees flocked to witness the immersion. The police have taken measures to prevent any untoward incident during the immersion. The traffic was cleared without causing any trouble to the processions. The immersion process was monitored by DGP Command Control Centre. In the past, once the immersion of the Mahaganapati of Khairatabad was completed, the immersion of the rest of the idols was done quickly. But this year, instead of immersing the idols near the tail ponds, they are moving them to the tank bund. The immersion will continue till noon today as pilgrims are flocking to the tankbund.

]]>Commissioner AV Ranganath highlighted that the construction of N-Convention violated regulations as it encroached on critical zones within the pond area without the necessary permissions from GHMC. The coordinated effort involving Hydra, GHMC, Town Planning, and Revenue staff led to the removal of encroachments, emphasizing the importance of adhering to land regulations.
The controversy surrounding N-Convention’s construction has raised questions about other illicit structures in Madapur and the potential targets of Hydra’s future actions. With no legal approvals obtained, the management’s attempt to regularize the building under the Building Regularization Scheme was unsuccessful, underscoring the consequences of flouting construction laws.
As the dust settles on N-Convention’s demolition, the spotlight shifts to other high-profile constructions on disputed lands, prompting speculation about Hydra’s next moves and the identities of VIPs involved in similar violations. The issue has ignited public interest and debate, signaling a growing concern over unauthorized developments in the region.
