In response to a distressing incident where Killo Devi, a tribal woman from Pitrigadda, had to be transported 6 kilometers on a ‘Doli’ due to lack of proper roads, local officials have stepped in to address the long-standing infrastructure issues in the village. The incident, which occurred under Arla panchayat of Rolugunta mandal, sparked outrage after it was widely reported, prompting swift action from the district administration.

On Friday, a team of officials led by Narsipatnam RDO V.V. Ramana, along with deputy tehsildar Sankar Rao, RI Murthy Ram, and local panchayat members, visited Pitrigadda, a village inhabited by the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). The visit was initiated following orders from the district collector, who prioritized an investigation into the villagers’ grievances.

During discussions with the tribal villagers, it was revealed that Killo Raju and Ramesh had no choice but to carry Killo Devi on a makeshift ‘Doli’ to the Buchiyyapet Primary Health Center (PHC) due to the unavailability of a proper road. The villagers expressed their frustration over years of negligence and poor infrastructure development.

In a shocking revelation, the villagers informed the officials that previous administrations had documented an expenditure of ₹26 lakh for road construction that was never carried out. They demanded accountability and action against those responsible for the alleged misuse of public funds.

RDO V.V. Ramana assured the villagers that their concerns would be brought to the attention of higher authorities and that appropriate action would be taken. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to addressing infrastructure problems in the region and ensuring that basic amenities, such as roads, are provided to the tribal communities.

This incident underscores the urgent need for improved infrastructure in tribal areas and has sparked conversations about the responsibility of officials in ensuring the proper use of public funds. The villagers hope that this visit will lead to long-overdue improvements in their living conditions, ensuring that no one else has to endure the hardships that Killo Devi faced.

In Manipur, the situation has taken a turn for the worse as student protests have spiraled into violent clashes with authorities. The recent events at Raj Bhavan have seen a significant escalation in tensions, with tear gas being used on protesters and curfews being imposed in the region.

For the second consecutive day, student unions attempted to lay siege to Raj Bhavan, resulting in confrontations with the police. The removal of barricades led to a clash between students and law enforcement, with reports of stone pelting and tear gas being fired.

As the unrest continues, hundreds of individuals have been arrested, further fueling the already volatile situation. Students have been vocal in their demands for peace and the protection of their academic pursuits, calling for the removal of government figures they deem complicit in the unrest.

The ongoing riots have claimed the lives of 11 individuals, prompting authorities to enforce curfews in key districts. Despite prohibitory orders, students have defied restrictions, leading to incidents of arson and escalating violence near Raj Bhavan.

In response to the crisis, the government has implemented a ban on internet services to prevent the spread of incendiary content. Dialogue between the governor and student leaders aims to restore peace, with assurances of proactive measures to address the unrest.

The broader context of the violence in Manipur stems from longstanding tensions between the Kukis and Meithis, resulting in a tragic toll of 220 lives lost over the past year. Allegations of political bias and oppression further complicate efforts to quell the unrest, raising concerns about the state’s future stability.

Amaravati, September 9: Heavy rains have been wreaking havoc in the Telugu states over the past few days, leading to widespread flooding and chaos in several areas. In response to the escalating situation, the government has declared holidays for schools in certain districts today, September 9. This decision comes as a measure to ensure the safety of students residing in flood-affected regions.

The affected districts where school holidays have been announced include Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitaramaraj, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR (rehabilitation centers & schools in flooded areas), and Bapatla. The onset of heavy rains, attributed to the influence of the low-pressure system associated with Dhoni in the Bay of Bengal, has prompted the Meteorological Department to issue warnings of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall for today and tomorrow.

Already, the impact of the torrential rains has led to floods in various districts, disrupting public life and necessitating relief efforts by the government. Overflowing rivers and inundated areas have compounded traffic problems, prompting officials to advise residents in high-intensity rainfall zones to venture outdoors only in case of emergencies.

In Konaseema district, fears of flooding loom large among the residents, despite the withdrawal of danger alerts at the Dhavaleshwaram barrage in East Godavari district. With 9 lakh cusecs of floodwater being discharged into the sea, apprehension grips the populace regarding the potential flood pathways. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is actively involved in relocating individuals to safer locations, particularly in the Gurajapulanka Pallamvaripalem area of Konaseema district, severely impacted by the floods. Meanwhile, Alluri district continues to experience copious rainfall, leading to traffic disruptions at multiple points along overflowing rivers.
