Visakhapatnam, November 25: Rains continue to affect Andhra Pradesh as the state braces for another round of heavy weather. Despite the arrival of winter, the rainfall has shown no signs of slowing down. The Meteorological Center has issued an alert, predicting heavy rainfall for the next three days due to a low-pressure system in the South-East Bay of Bengal. The system, which formed in the South Andaman Sea, intensified into a severe depression on Sunday night, and by Monday, it is expected to become a cyclone.

Cyclone Formation and Impact

The low-pressure system is currently moving from the west to the northwest and is forecasted to strengthen into a cyclone in the South Bay of Bengal. The cyclone is predicted to bring heavy rains to coastal districts from Wednesday to Saturday. Visakhapatnam and other coastal areas will experience light to moderate rains, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in certain parts. The Meteorological Center has warned farmers and the general public to take necessary precautions as the weather system continues to develop.

Projected Path and Landfall

The system is expected to move further north-westward and cross the coast of Tamil Nadu, heading toward Sri Lanka by Wednesday evening, November 27. The cyclone’s winds are expected to bring rain to the southern coastal districts, particularly Nellore and Prakasam. The heavy rainfall will also affect other areas due to the cyclone’s proximity.

Wind and Sea Conditions

The wind speeds along the south coast are expected to increase, with winds blowing at 35 to 50 kmph along the coastline, and gusts reaching up to 65 kmph. The Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Center has issued a strong advisory, warning that the sea will be rough starting Tuesday. Fishermen have been advised to stay off the waters until November 29 due to the dangerous conditions.

Cold Weather Alert

In addition to the rain, cold winds have begun sweeping across the state, leading to lower-than-average temperatures in the mornings. The Meteorological Center has warned that temperatures will continue to drop in the coming days, particularly in Telangana, where the cold is increasing steadily. The public is advised to take extra precautions against the cold as the weather conditions intensify.

Conclusion

Andhra Pradesh and surrounding areas are preparing for a challenging few days as heavy rains, strong winds, and cold weather take hold. With the cyclone developing in the Bay of Bengal, authorities have issued multiple warnings, urging residents, particularly along the coast, to remain cautious and heed safety advisories.

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in several districts of Andhra Pradesh, forecasting potential disruptions due to a low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal. KVS Srinivas, the director of the Visakha Typhoon Warning Center, confirmed that a low-pressure area is expected to form on the 23rd of this month. The system is anticipated to move west-northwestward, strengthening into an air mass over the Southwest Bay of Bengal.

This newly-formed air mass is expected to travel towards Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, and once it strengthens into a gale, it will begin to affect regions along the South Coast and Rayalaseema, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall. The districts likely to be impacted include Nellore, Prakasam, and other parts of Rayalaseema. The weather conditions are predicted to intensify as the system gains strength, and rainfall is expected to last for several days, with the most severe conditions anticipated from the 26th of the month.

The impending rains may bring significant challenges to local farmers who are already dealing with crop damage from Cyclone Dana, which struck the region last month. There is growing concern about the potential for further destruction of crops and infrastructure, especially if the predicted winds and heavy rains materialize.

Farmers and residents are urged to stay alert to the weather updates and take necessary precautions. The Meteorological Department is keeping a close watch on the developing weather system and will issue further warnings as needed.

As Cyclone Dana approaches the eastern coast, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding its potential to develop into a severe cyclonic storm. Located approximately 700 km southeast of Paradeep (Odisha), 750 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal), and 730 km southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh), the storm has already begun to impact weather patterns in the region.

Current Status of Cyclone Dana

According to the latest bulletin from the Meteorological Department, the low-pressure system formed in the east-central Bay of Bengal has strengthened into a storm. Cyclone Dana is expected to cross the coast between Puri and Sagar Island, likely making landfall on Thursday night (October 24th) to Friday morning (October 25th). As a result, both Odisha and West Bengal are already experiencing heavy rainfall, with forecasts predicting gusts of wind reaching up to 120 kilometers per hour during the storm’s impact.

Impact on Telugu States

The weather department has issued a high alert for the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, anticipating heavy rainfall in several districts. Specifically, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitamaraju, Visakha, and Anakapalli districts in Andhra Pradesh can expect substantial rainfall on October 24th and 25th.

Warning for Fishermen

The Meteorological Department has issued a stern warning for fishermen, advising against venturing out to sea as winds have already picked up speed, reaching 45 to 55 kilometers per hour along the coast. Danger warnings have been activated at all state ports due to the impending cyclone.

Transportation Disruptions

In light of the approaching storm, railway officials have canceled numerous train services, with reports indicating that 66 services have been suspended up to Ellundi. The decision was made to ensure the safety of passengers and minimize disruptions during the storm.

Current Conditions

Heavy rains have already been reported across various regions of Andhra Pradesh, leading to flooding in low-lying areas. Joint districts such as Chittoor, Anantapur, Krishna, Prakasam, and Uttarandhra are particularly affected, with ponds and streams overflowing their banks and inundating villages.

Conclusion

AP Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu recently addressed the ongoing false campaign by YCP against Amaravati, emphasizing the city’s safety despite heavy rains and flood concerns. Amid reports of 11.5 lakh cusecs of floodwaters pouring, Amaravati has managed to avoid any imminent flood threats. The minister highlighted the damage caused by the heavy rains across Andhra Pradesh, particularly in the capital city of Amaravati.

Clarifying the situation, the government refuted allegations claiming that Amaravati had sunk, reassuring residents of the city’s safety. However, low-lying areas in the capital region experienced inundation, with significant impacts observed at the Mantena Satyanarayanaraja ashram on the Venkatapalem embankment. Leakage near the embankment prompted emergency actions, including evacuating individuals with the help of ropes and reinforcing the area with sand.

Local efforts, overseen by MLA Tenali Shravan Kumar, and visits from Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu and CRDA Commissioner Katmaneni Bhaskar aimed to address the leakage issues effectively. Despite challenges posed by the flood surge, continuous monitoring and community support have been instrumental in safeguarding the affected areas.

Minister Ramanaidu reiterated that Amaravati remains secure, countering opposition claims with evidence of the city’s resilience to flooding compared to other urban centers like Hyderabad and Chennai. Emphasizing the need to dispel misinformation, he reaffirmed that Amaravati stands strong against natural calamities.
