HYDRA, the urban management authority known for its relentless campaign against illegal encroachments, is taking its mission to the next level. After bulldozing encroachments across various parts of the city, HYDRA has now set its sights on reclaiming footpaths for public use. In a collaborative effort with the traffic department, the authority is preparing for “Operation Footpath,” aimed at resolving Hyderabad’s traffic jams and improving pedestrian safety.

A New Operation: Footpath Encroachment in Focus

HYDRA’s latest initiative is designed to address one of the city’s most pressing issues—footpath encroachment. This problem has been identified as a significant factor contributing to Hyderabad’s notorious traffic congestion. Footpaths in many parts of the city have been taken over by illegal constructions, forcing pedestrians to walk on busy roads, further worsening the traffic situation.

HYDRA Commissioner Ranganath, in a meeting with Traffic Commissioner Vishwaprasad, outlined the action plan for Operation Footpath. Notices will be issued to those responsible for encroachments, and in cases where they fail to comply, bulldozers will be deployed to demolish illegal constructions. The goal is to ensure that footpaths are restored for public use, helping reduce congestion and allowing citizens to walk safely.

Partnership with Traffic Department and DRF Teams

HYDRA’s efforts are not limited to removing encroachments. The agency is also working closely with the traffic department to develop a comprehensive approach to traffic management in Hyderabad. As part of this collaboration, DRF (Disaster Response Force) teams will receive specialized training in traffic control and clearing footpath obstructions. This multi-departmental effort is aimed at tackling the problem from various angles.

During monsoon season, footpath encroachments also contribute to flooding issues. To address this, HYDRA and the traffic department plan to install high-power motors at waterlogging points and ensure rapid removal of water to prevent disruptions during heavy rains. Additionally, they will remove debris from flood canals and pipes, lay new drainage lines, and implement measures to prevent future flooding.

Ensuring Safe Walkways for Hyderabad’s Citizens

Another key objective of Operation Footpath is to create safe and usable footpaths across the city. In partnership with GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) and traffic departments, HYDRA aims to construct new footpaths and restore existing ones so that citizens can walk safely without the fear of encroachments or obstructive structures. The plan also includes clearing potentially dangerous trees and branches that pose a threat to both pedestrians and vehicles, especially during bad weather.

A Broader Vision: Making Hyderabad Traffic-Free

HYDRA’s long-term vision is to transform Hyderabad into a traffic-free city, with contributions from various departments and the participation of the people. The agency believes that by addressing footpath encroachments, improving pedestrian safety, and implementing a coordinated traffic control strategy, the city can achieve a smoother, more efficient flow of vehicles.

The success of Operation Footpath is expected to significantly reduce traffic jams, ensure the safety of pedestrians, and enhance the overall quality of life for Hyderabad’s residents. HYDRA’s commitment to improving the urban landscape is clear, and with strong collaboration from various stakeholders, Hyderabad could soon become a model for traffic management in other cities.

Hydra, the enforcement authority in Telangana, is ramping up its crackdown on illegal constructions in the state. Recent developments have seen Hydra taking decisive actions to expedite the demolition of unauthorized structures and tighten regulations on construction activities.

In a significant move, Hydra Commissioner penned a letter to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) regarding construction in ponds. The letter urged the cancellation of permissions for constructions in Flood Flow Channels (FTL) or buffer zones, emphasizing the need to review and verify existing permissions.

Specifically targeting illegal constructions in ponds, Hydra called for the cancellation of permissions for building on five ponds, including Komatikunta. This stern approach aims to preserve the ecological balance and prevent encroachment on vital water bodies.

Meanwhile, Hydra’s enforcement activities have extended to areas like Kukatpally, Kishtareddypet, and Patelguda in Aminpur Municipality, where structures on government lands have been demolished. Notably, significant areas in Nallacheruvu FTL, Shantinagar buffer zone, and Kishtareddypet, Patelguda have been cleared of unauthorized constructions.

On a parallel front, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasized the importance of addressing encroachments on ponds and canals. Directing officials to identify residents in Musi catchment areas, the focus is on providing alternative housing solutions. Measures to safeguard inner and outer ponds, including the installation of CCTV cameras, have been mandated to enhance surveillance and deter illegal activities.

In recent days, the name “HYDRA” has reverberated beyond the streets of Hyderabad, resonating throughout the entire state of Telangana. The proactive measures taken by HYDRA to safeguard the ponds have sent ripples of concern through the hearts of those engaged in illegal activities. Wherever one turns in Hyderabad, the name HYDRA echoes relentlessly, marking its presence with unwavering aggression against illegal constructions.

For several consecutive days, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been pressing HYDRA on the issue of addressing the educational institutions affiliated with Owaisi, specifically those situated in the Salakam Pond area. While HYDRA Commissioner Ranganath has refrained from declaring Owaisi’s innocence, emphasizing the importance of considering the students’ future before any drastic actions, the spotlight has shifted to other prominent figures like Mallareddy under the same rule.

The demolitions orchestrated by HYDRA have set ablaze the political landscape of Telangana, sparking debates and discussions on the fate of illegal structures belonging to influential entities. Commissioner Ranganath remains resolute in his commitment to safeguarding the ponds, asserting that no amount of pressure will sway HYDRA from its mission to uphold the law against unauthorized constructions.

Amidst the ongoing political turmoil, the focus has shifted from the criticism directed at HYDRA by various factions, including the BRS and BJP, to the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM). BJP’s recent alignment with HYDRA in targeting MIM has brought forth new challenges, prompting questions regarding the extent of the demolitions within Hyderabad. As the tensions escalate, HYDRA stands firm in its resolve to enforce the law impartially, irrespective of the individual or organization involved.

Commissioner Ranganath’s stance on granting a grace period for the removal of illegal structures reflects a nuanced approach aimed at minimizing disruptions to the academic calendar. However, the ultimatum remains clear: non-compliance will result in HYDRA taking decisive action to uphold the law. The looming question of HYDRA’s future actions looms large, with speculations arising about the government’s next moves and the potential targets in its sights.

As the narrative unfolds, the saga of HYDRA continues to captivate audiences across Telangana, heralding a new chapter in the state’s political landscape.

Hydra, the enforcement authority in Madapur, has taken a strong stance against illegal constructions by demolishing the famous N-Convention Hall belonging to actor Nagarjuna. Despite efforts to seek a court stay, the authorities proceeded with the demolition following numerous complaints about unauthorized development around Tammidikunta pond.

Commissioner AV Ranganath highlighted that the construction of N-Convention violated regulations as it encroached on critical zones within the pond area without the necessary permissions from GHMC. The coordinated effort involving Hydra, GHMC, Town Planning, and Revenue staff led to the removal of encroachments, emphasizing the importance of adhering to land regulations.

The controversy surrounding N-Convention’s construction has raised questions about other illicit structures in Madapur and the potential targets of Hydra’s future actions. With no legal approvals obtained, the management’s attempt to regularize the building under the Building Regularization Scheme was unsuccessful, underscoring the consequences of flouting construction laws.

As the dust settles on N-Convention’s demolition, the spotlight shifts to other high-profile constructions on disputed lands, prompting speculation about Hydra’s next moves and the identities of VIPs involved in similar violations. The issue has ignited public interest and debate, signaling a growing concern over unauthorized developments in the region.
