]]> Numerous high-achieving students from Telangana face the prospect of losing their opportunity for admission to MBBS due to a sudden alteration in the definition of “locals” by the health department. On July 19, the department introduced GO MS No 33, which modified the criteria for local students. The details of the GO were not disclosed until Monday, when the Kaloji University of Health Sciences released the admission notification, incorporating the revised definition of local candidates.

According to the GO, it is now compulsory for students taking Intermediate exams in Telangana to be classified as local candidates. Consequently, individuals who were born and raised in Telangana but pursued their two-year intermediate education outside the state will be disqualified.

Expressing concern over this situation, Kishore, a parent, mentioned, “Regrettably, these students find themselves in a dilemma. They are rendered ineligible for admission in other states, including neighboring Andhra Pradesh, because they spent the majority of their educational years in Telangana. Furthermore, they are considered ineligible in Telangana as they did not undertake their intermediate studies within the state.
