The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Amaravathi has announced that a fresh upper air cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 20. According to the IMD, this system is likely to develop into a low-pressure area over the Central Bay of Bengal by October 22, after which it is expected to move northwestwards and intensify further.

The IMD also noted the persistence of a well-marked low-pressure area over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north coastal Tamil Nadu. This cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level and is tilting southwestwards. It is predicted to move west-northwestwards and weaken into a low-pressure system soon.

Meanwhile, private weather website Skymet has also issued a report stating that the cyclonic circulation forming over the North Andaman Sea may have the potential to evolve into a tropical storm. According to Skymet, the system is expected to move across the Myanmar-Thailand region and enter the east-central Bay of Bengal by October 19 or 20. As it moves towards the central parts of the Bay of Bengal, the circulation is likely to strengthen further.

The forecast highlights that conditions in the Indian seas are conducive for low-pressure systems to develop into tropical storms. The potential for intensification is heightened by the availability of oceanic heat and sufficient sea travel. As a result, the entire coastline from Odisha, West Bengal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar could be vulnerable to the impact of this potential storm, urging coastal regions to stay alert and prepared.

A low-pressure area has developed over the northern Bay of Bengal and adjacent coastal regions of Bangladesh and West Bengal, bringing concerns of heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Amaravati has reported that this weather system is being influenced by upper air circulation over southwest Bangladesh and its surrounding areas, with cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestward with height.

Stella, the Director of IMD Amaravati, explained that the situation is being closely monitored to confirm whether this cyclonic circulation will intensify into a more defined low-pressure system. If it does, Andhra Pradesh, particularly the coastal regions and Rayalaseema, could experience moderate to heavy rainfall starting from October 7. Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning, are also expected in isolated areas across north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema.

The upper air cyclonic circulation also extends over the West Central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. This development is likely to enhance rainfall activity in the coming days, prompting local authorities to issue advisories for residents to stay alert.

IMD has advised caution for those in low-lying areas, as well as for fishermen who may be venturing into the seas during this period. The department has also highlighted the possibility of thunderstorms, and residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid open areas during such events.

While the extent of the rainfall is yet to be fully confirmed, the cyclonic circulation is expected to bring much-needed relief from the heat, but at the same time, could lead to temporary disruptions in transportation and public services due to heavy downpours. Citizens are advised to follow weather updates and take necessary precautions.
