Srisailam, Nandyala District: Devotees have thronged the Mallanna temple in Srisailam today, marking the auspicious first Monday of the Kartika month. This sacred day sees a significant influx of devotees who are taking holy baths in Patal Ganga before heading to the temple for a glimpse of Mallanna. The atmosphere is vibrant with Kartika lamps being lit in the Gangadhara Mandapam and along North Shivamada street.

Due to the overwhelming number of visitors, touching darshan of Lord Swami has been suspended, with only decorative darshan permitted. As thousands wait in line, the average time for a visit to see Sri Swami Ammavari stretches to approximately six hours.

The Kartika Monday festivities are particularly special for the devotees of Mallikarjunaswamy, as the Mukkanthi Kshetra has become a hub of spiritual activity. Many have arrived early to take part in the holy bath in Patal Ganga, light Kartika lamps, and offer prayers. At Gangadhara Mandapam, devotees are seen lighting lamps and chanting traditional Kartika hymns.

In light of the significant traffic of devotees throughout the month, the temple authorities have announced that touching darshan, mass gatherings, and garbhalaya abhishekam will be temporarily halted on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays until the end of Kartika. EO of the temple, EV Chandrasekhar Reddy, noted that touching darshan will be allowed in four sessions daily from Tuesday to Friday.

To enhance the spiritual experience, the Devasthanam Lakshdeepotsavam and Pushkarini Aarti are scheduled to take place at Pushkarini, located on the northeast side of the main temple, this evening.

With the end of the Aswayuja month fast approaching, the Mukkanti Mallanna temple in Srisailam, located in the Nandyal district, is experiencing a significant surge in devotees. As the Kartik month approaches—starting on November 2 following the Diwali festival—the temple is preparing for what is expected to be an even busier time for worshippers.

Monday, traditionally considered an auspicious day for Lord Shiva, has drawn large crowds to Srisailam. From dawn, devotees have been queuing in long lines to seek darshan of Shri Bhramaramba Mallikarjunaswamy’s Ammavar after performing a holy bath in the Patalganga. Devotees report that the wait time for darshan can extend up to four hours, as rituals such as Rudrabhishekam and Kumkumarchana are being performed with devotion.

In response to the increased foot traffic, temple in-charge Evo Chandrasekhar Reddy has implemented special measures to ensure a smooth experience for the devotees. As part of these arrangements, breakfast, milk, biscuits, and fresh drinking water are being provided to those waiting in queues and compartments for darshan, ensuring their comfort during the wait.

As the Kartik month approaches, the crowd of devotees is expected to grow exponentially, with lakhs of pilgrims visiting daily. Devotees believe that bathing in sacred waters during this month and lighting Kartika lamps brings auspicious results and blessings.

The atmosphere at the temple is one of devotion and excitement, as families and individuals gather to partake in spiritual practices and connect with their faith. With the combination of upcoming festivals and the significance of the Kartik month, Srisailam is set to remain a bustling hub of activity and devotion in the days ahead.

Floods in Telugu States: Reservoirs Overflow as Rains Pour Down

The recent heavy rains sweeping through the upper regions have led to significant flooding in the Telugu states, causing all major projects to reach full capacity. As the Godavari River swells, the region is experiencing a deluge that is raising water levels in key reservoirs and prompting authorities to issue warnings to residents in lower areas.

Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir Overflow

Nagarjuna Sagar has once again become a focal point of concern, with an impressive inflow of 74,000 cusecs entering the reservoir. The current water level has reached 590 feet, nearing the project’s full capacity. Officials are advising those in lower-lying areas to remain vigilant, as the risks of flooding increase. Despite the dangers, the heavy flow of water has attracted many tourists who wish to witness the magnificent sight.

Srisailam Reservoir Update

The Srisailam reservoir continues to experience flooding, with a total inflow recorded at 1,29,562 cusecs, while outflows are at 95,699 cusecs. Currently, the water level is at 885 feet, with storage capacity standing at 213.4 TMC. The hydropower stations on both banks of the Srisailam project are operating at full capacity, contributing to power generation amidst the crisis.

Jurala and Tungabhadra Projects

The Jurala project is also feeling the effects of the torrential rains, with inflow levels climbing to 75,000 cusecs. In total, the project is currently releasing 85,356 cusecs of water downstream. Meanwhile, the Tungabhadra reservoir is experiencing significant inflow, with approximately 60,000 cubic meters of water being released through eight gates. The Sunkesula barrage in Kurnool district is under scrutiny as officials have raised 22 spillway gates to release 93,324 cusecs of water downstream, indicating the severity of the situation.

Krishnamma River Rising

The Krishnamma River is also swelling, with 84,297 cusecs of water coming from upstream at the Prakasam barrage. The water level has surged to 12 feet, leading to the release of 6,547 cusecs to the right and left canals. Authorities remain on alert, as predictions suggest that the flooding may worsen.

Overall, the floods resulting from heavy rains in the upper states have transformed the reservoirs across the Telugu states into overflowing projects. While the natural spectacle draws tourists, local authorities emphasize the importance of preparedness and safety for residents in the affected areas.

The Andhra Pradesh government is devising plans to introduce seaplanes as a key component of its strategy to boost tourism. Leading the charge on this initiative is the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL). Drawing inspiration from the successful seaplane service operating on Gujarat’s Sabarmati River, the AP government has commissioned senior officials from various departments such as tourism, revenue, forest, fisheries, and water resources to undertake an initial study.

Under the supervision of Amrit Kumar, the project engineer at Orvakal Airport, these officials conducted an examination of the Krishna River at Srisailam, collecting essential data for the seaplane project. The inspection team journeyed from the SLBC tunnel to the upstream Srisailam reservoir to evaluate the project’s feasibility. Their assessment revealed that the area is well-suited for establishing an aerodrome to facilitate seaplane landings.

In the planning stages of the water-based aerodrome, officials are committed to ensuring minimal disruption to the livelihoods of local fishermen who rely on the reservoir for fishing activities. A comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently in progress, focusing on the viability of the aerodrome on Srisailam reservoir water and conducting a thorough assessment of the ground conditions before proceeding further.

Additionally, plans are in place to conduct surveys at Prakasam Barrage and Nagarjuna Sagar. The state government aims to introduce seaplanes starting from Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada, establishing a connection to Nagarjuna Sagar via the downstream flow of the Krishna River from Srisailam. Future tourism packages are being considered to offer seaplane services along this river route. Exploring the potential for aerodromes at strategic locations like Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar, and Prakasam Barrage is expected to significantly boost tourism revenue.

Chandramouli Reddy, the divisional manager of the Tourism Department, has confirmed the completion of the joint inspection. The state government is set to proceed with the DPR based on the recommendations put forth by the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited.

Devotees witnessed a rare incident of a cobra coiling around the Chandra Lingam behind the Vajra Gangamma temple near the Pathalaganga in Srisailam temple town on Tuesday morning.

Priests and others visiting the small temple to offer prayers and Abhishekam were astonished to see the cobra, considered Lord Shiva’s Kanthabharanam (neck- lace), encircling the Shivalingam.

Devotees who witnessed the event expressed wonder. Vedic scholars refer to this as Nagabharanam, and the devotees were amazed to observe this phenomenon directly.

According to K. Ramesh from Bairlutygudem in Atmakur mandal, “Hindus worship snakes as incarnations of Lord Subrahmanya, and this is a rare incident.” The sight of the large cobra, its hood fully extended, coiled around the lingam astounded us; it was truly amazing.”

Because the incident occurred so close to the auspicious Toli Ekadashi Wednesday, many devotees saw the cobra’s presence as auspicious for the holy day. A few followers recorded videos with their phones and posted them to social media, where the video is now extensively shared.
