The Indian Paralympic team received a grand send-off before the Paris Games, set to take place from August 28 to September 8. The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) and Sports Authority of India (SAI) organized a ceremony for the team consisting of 84 athletes across 12 sports disciplines, such as archery, athletics, badminton, canoeing, cycling, blind judo, powerlifting, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya commended the para athletes for their exceptional ability to conquer challenges and transform them into opportunities. He highlighted their determination and perseverance in gearing up for the Paris Paralympics 2024. The Minister also noted the positive impact of the Khelo India initiative on many athletes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing the necessary resources and support for their success at the highest level.

Expressing confidence in the team’s performance, Mansukh Mandaviya wished them well as they aim for excellence on the global stage. Reflecting on India’s success at the Tokyo Paralympics, PCI president Devendra Jhajharia expressed hope for another impressive showing in Paris. He praised the athletes for their dedication and passion, stating that they embody the spirit of resilience and determination that characterizes the nation.

A special anthem titled “Macha Dhoom” by renowned music directors Abhishek was unveiled during the event. Additionally, a commemorative book named “Breaking the Barriers,” authored by Abhishek Dubey and Mahavir Rawat, was introduced to celebrate the achievements and dreams of the Indian Paralympic team. Sumit Antil, the gold medalist at the Tokyo Paralympics, and Bhagyashree Jadhav, the silver medalist at the Asian Para Games, will proudly carry the Indian flag at the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Paris. Devendra Jhajharia, the chief of the Paralympic Committee of India, lauded their consistent performances and announced them as flag-bearers for the athletes’ march past at the Paris Paralympics.
