The coastal city of Visakhapatnam is set to witness significant growth in the IT sector as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) prepares to establish its base at Millennium Towers in Rushikonda. Speaking at the Collectorate, IT Minister Nara Lokesh announced that TCS would initially operate with 2,000 employees in a transit facility while the State Government facilitates land for constructing new office spaces.

A Vision for an IT Capital

Minister Lokesh emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Visakhapatnam into the IT capital of Andhra Pradesh. He stated that more lands would be allocated for TCS and other IT giants, with discussions set to continue at the upcoming Davos summit. “Our government has introduced one of the best IT policies to attract large-scale investments and create job opportunities,” Lokesh said.

Criticism of the Previous Government

The Minister criticized the previous YSRCP government for neglecting North Andhra. “In five years, they failed to allocate land for the railway zone or focus on the IT sector. Their inaction caused significant setbacks,” he alleged.

He also dismissed YSRCP’s allegations about the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), reiterating that there was no intention to privatize the facility. “Although VSP faces financial difficulties, both the Centre and the State Government are supporting it,” Lokesh assured.

Progress Under the NDA Government

Highlighting the achievements of the NDA government, Lokesh said, “In just six months, we have reopened Anna Canteens, increased pensions, and relaunched the Deepam scheme. We are clearing the debts racked up by YSRCP with the Centre’s support.”

Future Plans

Lokesh reaffirmed the government’s dedication to providing a robust infrastructure for IT companies, ensuring that Visakhapatnam remains a preferred destination for investments. The Millennium Towers at Rushikonda is just the beginning of this vision.

The recent announcement that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will establish a new IT facility in Visakhapatnam has created a buzz in the local economy. Expected to generate around 10,000 jobs, the new center is set to significantly bolster the city’s economic growth and IT ecosystem. Currently, Visakhapatnam’s IT sector is home to over 200 companies, employing between 25,000 and 30,000 individuals, and this new TCS facility is poised to propel these numbers to new heights.

O. Naresh Kumar, Vice President of the Rushikonda Information Technology Park Association, highlighted the importance of TCS’s entry, stating that it marks a major leap forward for the city’s tech industry and the state of Andhra Pradesh. “We are eagerly awaiting TCS’s official announcement regarding the facility’s launch date,” he shared. Kumar commended the state government’s efforts to attract major IT players, noting that big names like Wipro, Infosys, and now TCS have recognized Visakhapatnam as a promising tech hub.

Kumar also emphasized the facility’s potential to improve employment prospects for women in the region. “Many families prefer not to have their daughters relocate for work,” he explained. “TCS’s presence here will allow more women to pursue rewarding careers close to home.” This sentiment echoes the broader community’s hopes that the new facility will enable local talent to thrive without needing to migrate to other cities for work opportunities.

The state government has been keen to foster a conducive environment for IT giants, with the goal of positioning Visakhapatnam as a significant player in India’s tech industry. This TCS expansion underscores the area’s growing appeal as an IT destination, creating a ripple effect that will likely attract further investments in the region.

As the tech ecosystem in Visakhapatnam continues to grow, this latest development is expected to unlock new opportunities, boost the local economy, and drive the city closer to becoming a major IT hub. With this substantial job creation on the horizon, the city is set to experience positive economic growth, supporting not only the IT sector but also various ancillary industries in the area.
