Recently, a campaign on social media has circulated claims that Telangana RTC (TGSRTC) has increased bus fares. In response to these rumors, TGSRTC has issued a press note providing clarity on the matter.

According to the statement, there is no truth to the claims that bus ticket prices have been increased. Normal fares remain applicable for regular services. The organization has implemented fare revisions only for special buses that have been arranged in response to the heavy travel demand during the Diwali festive season.

The management explained that special services are typically run on major festivals and occasions to ensure safe and hassle-free transportation for passengers. However, due to lower passenger numbers on the return journey, these special buses often operate with empty seats. In 2003, the state government issued GEO No. 16, allowing the revision of ticket prices based on the minimum diesel costs incurred by these special buses. This process has been in place for the last 21 years, allowing fare adjustments of up to ₹1.50 only for special services during festivals.

During the Diwali festival, TGSRTC operated regular services to help passengers return home. However, the return traffic from areas like Karimnagar, Warangal, and Khammam to Hyderabad has been significant. In light of this, the management decided to run additional special buses to accommodate the increased passenger load, particularly on Sundays and Mondays.

On Sunday alone, 127 special buses were dispatched from the Karimnagar region, 105 from Rangareddy, 66 from Warangal, and 16 from Adilabad to Hyderabad. Additionally, 147 more services were arranged for Monday evening.

TGSRTC reiterated that only the fares for these special services will be revised as per the government directive, while normal ticket prices will continue to apply for regular buses. The organization emphasized that fare adjustments for special services are a standard procedure and not an unusual practice within TGSRTC.

Conclusion

Passengers are encouraged to verify information from official sources regarding bus fares and services, especially during peak travel seasons like Diwali. TGSRTC remains committed to providing safe and affordable transportation options for all travelers.

Telangana RTC has recently made a significant decision regarding the expansion of electric buses across the state. The RTC has put forth a proposal to the state government, emphasizing the necessity of establishing 10 new bus depots to facilitate the growing fleet of electric buses. This initiative comes at a time when there is a surge in the demand for electric vehicles, both from consumers and governmental bodies.

Last year, Telangana RTC received a substantial funding of Rs. 1522 crore, marking a notable investment towards promoting eco-friendly transportation. A significant portion of this funding, 22.7 percent to be precise, has been allocated to support the adoption of electric vehicles, aiming to alleviate the reliance on traditional fuel sources. While currently operating electric buses primarily in Hyderabad and Vijayawada, RTC is now gearing up to extend its electric bus services to various districts within the state.

To materialize the establishment of new depots, Telangana RTC has estimated a budget of Rs. 100 crores, with each depot requiring 10 acres of land. Additionally, the implementation of 33 KV high tension power supply for charging electric buses is deemed essential, necessitating an estimated Rs. 232 crores for both the new and existing depots. Moreover, intermediate charging stations are proposed to be set up at key terminal points like Kothi and Hayatnagar in Hyderabad, requiring an investment of Rs. 60 crores each.

Telangana RTC’s strategic move towards integrating electric buses into its fleet underscores the organization’s commitment to embracing sustainable and environment-friendly transportation solutions, setting a progressive example for the region.
