The price hike is due to factors like reduced onion yield and supply shortages, especially in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra.

Onion Prices Skyrocket: Consumers Struggle Amid Price Surge

In a shocking turn of events, onion prices have skyrocketed in just a matter of days. As the festival season continues and the wedding season approaches, traders warn that prices may climb even higher. While a month ago, onions were priced at Rs. 25 per kg, today they cost anywhere between Rs. 60 to Rs. 80 per kg in the open market. Market sources predict that prices could soon hit Rs. 100 per kg, leaving consumers anxious and frustrated.

The Onions Everyone Needs, Now Beyond Reach

Onions are a staple in every Indian kitchen, an essential ingredient in a wide variety of dishes. It is almost impossible to imagine Indian cuisine without onions. However, the recent price surge is making it difficult for many consumers to afford even the most basic amounts. The impact of these prices is felt not only at home but also at hotels, restaurants, and street food vendors, where onion paste usage has significantly dropped. Some establishments have even started putting up signs that say “No onions, please.”

Kurnool’s Decreased Yield and Weather Woes

Kurnool district, which is known for its vast onion cultivation, is experiencing a major drop in yield. Onion farming in Kurnool spans approximately 50,000 acres, but the recent crop yield has been significantly lower than expected. In the Kurnool market, the price for first-grade onions has risen to Rs. 4,888 per quintal, while medium-sized onions are now being sold for Rs. 3,919 per quintal. While onion farmers are enjoying the rise in prices, consumers are feeling the pinch as they now have to reconsider onions as a luxury in their daily cooking.

Heavy Rains Affect Crop Yields

The primary reason for the increase in onion prices is attributed to heavy rains that have hit key onion-growing regions, including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The excessive rainfall has caused widespread damage to onion crops, resulting in reduced yields and an insufficient supply to meet the growing demand. As a result, the shortage of onions has pushed prices higher, especially in major markets like Hyderabad.

Onion Shortage Hits Hyderabad’s Main Markets

In Hyderabad, which is a key city for onion trade in the Telugu states, onion prices have reached alarming levels. Local markets are now seeing significant shortages of onions, with traders warning that prices may go up even further in the coming days. This shortage has impacted not only household cooking but also commercial establishments, where businesses are now adjusting their menus or reducing onion consumption to cope with the rising costs.

Consumers Hope for Relief

As consumers feel the strain of rising onion prices, many are hoping for some relief from the government or traders. The festive season, along with the upcoming wedding season, is expected to further drive up demand, intensifying the pressure on onion supplies. Whether the situation improves in the coming months remains uncertain, but for now, the sharp rise in onion prices continues to leave a bitter taste for Indian households.

This article highlights the ongoing onion price crisis, focusing on the reasons behind the increase and the effects on both consumers and the market. It also discusses the challenges faced by key onion-growing areas like Kurnool and the impact of weather disruptions on crop yields.

Bollywood sensation Alia Bhatt, who had set her sights on expanding her influence in the Telugu film market, has been met with disappointment. Her latest film, Jigra, aimed at showcasing her versatility, has failed to leave a mark in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, garnering a modest box office collection of just ₹30-35 lakh.

A local distributor expressed his dismay, stating, “The revenge saga failed to connect with Telugu viewers. Other films performed significantly better during the Dasara holidays, which usually sees a boom in box office numbers.” This lackluster performance is a stark contrast to the hype surrounding the film, which was backed by Bollywood heavyweights and promoted by prominent figures in the Telugu industry, such as Samantha, Rana Daggubati, and renowned director Trivikram Srinivas.

Jigra was anticipated to be a hit, riding on the success of Alia’s previous performances, especially after she won over Telugu audiences with her role in RRR. However, the film’s predictable storyline and familiar brother-sister theme failed to draw a crowd. The distributor pointed out, “Overhype can sometimes backfire. Telugu viewers have high expectations, and a film needs more than star power to make an impact.”

This setback for Alia Bhatt reflects a broader trend in the Telugu industry, where female-oriented films have struggled to find success. Even established stars like Kajal Aggarwal in Satyabhama, Tamannah in Baak, and Anjali in Geetanjali Malli Vachindi have faced difficulties. Alia now joins this list, underlining the challenges Bollywood actresses face when trying to carve a niche in the Telugu states.

With Jigra, Alia’s ambitions of cementing her place in the Telugu market have taken a hit. It remains to be seen how she will navigate this setback and whether she will attempt another foray into Telugu cinema. For now, it serves as a reminder that star power alone may not be enough to guarantee success in a diverse and dynamic industry.

The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of impending heavy rains in various districts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, North Central Maharashtra, and surrounding areas. The weather forecast indicates that regions such as Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and North Bangladesh are expected to experience rainfall due to the trough extending to a height of 5.8 km above sea level. Revanth Reddy Sarkar, the Chief Minister of Telangana, has recently taken significant steps to address homelessness in the state. One of the key decisions made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is the establishment of Indiramma Committees to facilitate the selection of beneficiaries for housing initiatives. Additionally, the CM has proposed the auctioning of Rajiv Swagriha houses that are currently unused.

In a recent review session at the Secretariat, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasized the importance of expediting the construction of Indiramma Houses. To ensure a streamlined process, officials have been instructed to establish Indiramma committees by the upcoming Dussehra festival. The allocation of double bedroom houses to selected beneficiaries is also a priority in the housing scheme.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has underscored the need for the formation of Indiramma committees at various administrative levels, including villages, wards, mandals, towns, constituencies, and districts. To accelerate the housing allocation process, officials have been directed to finalize procedural details within one to two days. The CM has emphasized that Indiramma houses should be exclusively available to deserving individuals.

Expressing concern over the state’s lag in housing provision compared to other regions benefitting from the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has mandated officials to maximize the state’s share of centrally sanctioned houses. Furthermore, the CM has instructed officials to ensure the prompt return of dues owed to the state under the PMAY scheme.

To address operational challenges that may arise with the increased construction of Indiramma houses, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has authorized outsourcing for necessary recruitments within the engineering staff. Additionally, the CM has proposed the auction of blocks and houses at Rajiv’s residence to prevent their prolonged disuse.

Hydra, the enforcement authority in Telangana, is ramping up its crackdown on illegal constructions in the state. Recent developments have seen Hydra taking decisive actions to expedite the demolition of unauthorized structures and tighten regulations on construction activities.

In a significant move, Hydra Commissioner penned a letter to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) regarding construction in ponds. The letter urged the cancellation of permissions for constructions in Flood Flow Channels (FTL) or buffer zones, emphasizing the need to review and verify existing permissions.

Specifically targeting illegal constructions in ponds, Hydra called for the cancellation of permissions for building on five ponds, including Komatikunta. This stern approach aims to preserve the ecological balance and prevent encroachment on vital water bodies.

Meanwhile, Hydra’s enforcement activities have extended to areas like Kukatpally, Kishtareddypet, and Patelguda in Aminpur Municipality, where structures on government lands have been demolished. Notably, significant areas in Nallacheruvu FTL, Shantinagar buffer zone, and Kishtareddypet, Patelguda have been cleared of unauthorized constructions.

On a parallel front, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasized the importance of addressing encroachments on ponds and canals. Directing officials to identify residents in Musi catchment areas, the focus is on providing alternative housing solutions. Measures to safeguard inner and outer ponds, including the installation of CCTV cameras, have been mandated to enhance surveillance and deter illegal activities.

Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and BRS Working President KTR are at the center of this heated confrontation, exchanging accusations and counter-accusations that have gripped the political landscape in the region.

The Amrit scheme, a flagship project in Telangana, has become a battleground for political showdowns as allegations of corruption and irregularities in its tenders continue to escalate tensions among key players in the state’s political arena.

The ongoing war of words between Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and BRS Working President KTR has reached a boiling point, with each side vehemently defending their positions and challenging the other’s integrity.

Former BRS MLA Kandala Upender Reddy has added fuel to the fire with his critical comments on the scheme, raising questions about the transparency and fairness of the tender process. His remarks have further intensified the already charged atmosphere surrounding the scheme.

KTR’s accusations against the Congress government regarding corruption in the Amrit tenders have stirred controversy, while Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy’s rebuttals and demands for accountability from KTR have set the stage for a high-stakes political showdown.

The involvement of CM Revanth Reddy’s brother-in-law, Srujan Reddy, in the tender process has drawn scrutiny, with KTR alleging illegal ties that have raised serious concerns about the integrity of the scheme. Ponguleti’s challenge to resign if KTR’s allegations are proven true underscores the gravity of the situation and the political stakes involved.

As the political fire around the Amrit scheme continues to burn, the future implications of these allegations and counter-accusations remain uncertain, leaving the fate of key players in the balance and the political landscape in Telangana in a state of turmoil.

The process of filling teacher vacancies in government schools across the state of Telangana is facing extended delays as the school education department grapples with issues surrounding the release of the final answer key for the DSC online exams conducted on 6th September. Despite the initial release of the key, discrepancies and mistakes in the answers have led to widespread agitation among candidates across the state.

Officials from the education department have remained silent on the matter, leaving candidates and stakeholders in limbo regarding the timeline for announcing the DSC results. The delay in providing the District wise General Ranking List (GRL) along with TET marks has only added to the confusion and frustration among aspiring teachers.

Numerous objections raised by DSC candidates regarding the final answer key have not been adequately addressed, with concerns over discrepancies in marking and evaluation processes. The failure to release the GRL within the promised timeframe has further compounded the uncertainty surrounding the recruitment process.

In a bid to rectify errors in TET details submitted online, officials extended the deadline for corrections until September 13th. However, the delay in releasing the GRL and finalizing the selection of candidates for each post on a district-wise basis has left many applicants anxious and uncertain about the status of their applications.

Revanth Sarkar’s announcement about providing recruitment documents to DSC candidates on September 5th, Teacher’s Day, has offered a glimmer of hope amidst the prevailing confusion. Nevertheless, the lingering absence of DSC results even after the conclusion of September has cast a shadow of doubt and apprehension over the entire recruitment process.
