During the YSRC tenure, the use of “cow ghee” in the production of Tirupati laddu sparked controversy as lab test reports revealed a mixture of not only soybean oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, and corn oil but also fish oil, beef tallow, palm oil, and even pork fat. Anam Venkataramana Reddy, a spokesperson for the Telugu Desam party, presented these reports to support Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s assertion that adulterated ghee had been incorporated into the laddus made at Tirumala. These examinations took place at the National Dairy Development Board’s cattle feed laboratory. In Nellore, he addressed the media, emphasizing that the YSRC’s dishonest practices had been unveiled through the findings of the National Dairy Development Board’s cattle feed laboratory tests. “The ghee utilized during the YSRC administration included animal fats, validating our concerns about the desecration of our revered laddus,” he remarked. Following the change in government, ghee samples were sent for testing by the TTD on July 12, 2024, with the alarming results being received on July 23. The disclosed reports indicate that the so-called “cow ghee” was not limited to vegetable oils such as soybean oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, and corn oil, but also contained fish oil, beef tallow, palm oil, and even pork fat.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu narrowly avoided a potential train accident on Thursday as he walked along the Madhuranagar railway track and stopped on a bridge next to the tracks. Naidu was inspecting the floodwaters from the breached Budameru rivulet when a train approached on the same track.

Recognizing the danger, officials and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members quickly alerted the train driver, who managed to slow down the train in time. Naidu, who is among the most heavily protected Chief Ministers and benefits from the central government’s Z+ security due to previous Maoist threats, typically has his safety monitored by the National Security Guard (NSG) and other high-level security forces.

Officials reported that Naidu was standing on the Madhuranagar railway track to get a better view of the water flow when a train, traveling at significant speed, approached. Thanks to the prompt actions of the officials, the train slowed down and passed by safely. Naidu and his security team quickly moved away from the track, narrowly avoiding the train.

An eyewitness noted that the distance between Naidu and the train was just three feet, calling it a “close shave.” Security personnel promptly surrounded Naidu to ensure his safety and provide reassurance.

The political landscape in Nellore district is experiencing a significant shift following the 2024 elections. The YSRC party, which faced a substantial defeat in both the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, is now dealing with a notable wave of defections among its prominent leaders and party members to the successful Telugu Desam party. This surge in high-profile defections has shaken the YSRC, with figures like Rajya Sabha member Beeda Masthan Rao and former MLC Balli Kalyan Chakravarthy among those leaving. Particularly in Nellore city, there has been a surge in defections, with many corporators looking to switch allegiance to the Telugu Desam party.

The focal point of this political realignment can be found in the Nellore Rural constituency, currently represented by three-time MLA Kotam Reddy Sridhar Reddy. The absence of YSRC leader Adala Prabhakar Reddy post-2024 elections has sparked criticism from within the party ranks. Those who previously criticized Kotam Reddy for defecting to the Telugu Desam party before the elections are now considering a similar move, especially after his recent electoral success. Kotamreddy Sridhar, now serving as the Telugu Desam MLA for Nellore Rural, has emerged as a central figure in this transition.

Reports suggest that approximately 11 corporators from the Nellore Municipal Corporation have reached out to him regarding switching parties. Among them, Peneti Sudhakar (17th Division), T. Ashok Kumar (18th Division), and Shaik Fahmida (34th Division) have received a favorable response, while decisions regarding the others are pending. In a recent event at Kotamreddy’s office, these three corporators, along with other YSRC leaders, officially joined the Telugu Desam party. MLA Sridhar Reddy assured those making the switch of his full support. He mentioned that several other YSRC corporators have shown interest in joining, with final decisions to be made in consultation with local Telugu Desam leaders.

Kotamreddy expressed confidence in replicating his past electoral victories in the upcoming local body elections, aiming to secure various positions within the Nellore Rural segment.
