Floods in Telugu States: Reservoirs Overflow as Rains Pour Down

The recent heavy rains sweeping through the upper regions have led to significant flooding in the Telugu states, causing all major projects to reach full capacity. As the Godavari River swells, the region is experiencing a deluge that is raising water levels in key reservoirs and prompting authorities to issue warnings to residents in lower areas.

Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir Overflow

Nagarjuna Sagar has once again become a focal point of concern, with an impressive inflow of 74,000 cusecs entering the reservoir. The current water level has reached 590 feet, nearing the project’s full capacity. Officials are advising those in lower-lying areas to remain vigilant, as the risks of flooding increase. Despite the dangers, the heavy flow of water has attracted many tourists who wish to witness the magnificent sight.

Srisailam Reservoir Update

The Srisailam reservoir continues to experience flooding, with a total inflow recorded at 1,29,562 cusecs, while outflows are at 95,699 cusecs. Currently, the water level is at 885 feet, with storage capacity standing at 213.4 TMC. The hydropower stations on both banks of the Srisailam project are operating at full capacity, contributing to power generation amidst the crisis.

Jurala and Tungabhadra Projects

The Jurala project is also feeling the effects of the torrential rains, with inflow levels climbing to 75,000 cusecs. In total, the project is currently releasing 85,356 cusecs of water downstream. Meanwhile, the Tungabhadra reservoir is experiencing significant inflow, with approximately 60,000 cubic meters of water being released through eight gates. The Sunkesula barrage in Kurnool district is under scrutiny as officials have raised 22 spillway gates to release 93,324 cusecs of water downstream, indicating the severity of the situation.

Krishnamma River Rising

The Krishnamma River is also swelling, with 84,297 cusecs of water coming from upstream at the Prakasam barrage. The water level has surged to 12 feet, leading to the release of 6,547 cusecs to the right and left canals. Authorities remain on alert, as predictions suggest that the flooding may worsen.

Overall, the floods resulting from heavy rains in the upper states have transformed the reservoirs across the Telugu states into overflowing projects. While the natural spectacle draws tourists, local authorities emphasize the importance of preparedness and safety for residents in the affected areas.

As we approach the festive season of Navratri this year, a notable shift is observed in the investment trends among the populace. While gold has long been regarded as a traditional asset for jewelry, it is increasingly seen as a viable investment option amid changing market dynamics. In recent months, fluctuations in paddy prices have spurred a rising demand for gold and silver, leading many to reconsider their investment strategies.

Changing Investment Preferences

Historically, gold was primarily associated with jewelry, serving as a status symbol and a cherished asset for emergencies. As crops suffer and yields decrease, the open market sees a surge in prices, impacting consumers' ability to purchase vegetables.

The rains have ceased, and the floods have receded, but the challenges persist for the common man in Telugu states. The recent natural calamities have taken a toll on the cultivation of vegetables, resulting in a significant rise in prices across the region.

The damage caused by the floods has directly impacted the availability and affordability of vegetables for the local population. As the prices soar, many are expressing concerns about their ability to purchase essential food items.

In areas like Karimnagar district, where heavy rains have wreaked havoc on vegetable gardens, the yield has drastically decreased. Submerged crops and lost harvests have further exacerbated the scarcity, pushing prices to unprecedented levels.

Currently, the market reflects this crisis, with almost all varieties of vegetables hitting century marks in terms of pricing. Tomatoes, green chillies, legumes, berkaya, okra, carrots, cauliflower, greens, coriander, and mint are among the commodities witnessing sharp price hikes.

Previously, a modest sum of three hundred rupees could sustain a family for a week, but now, the same amount barely covers two days’ worth of vegetables. Onion prices have also surged, adding to the financial burden on consumers.

Traders anticipate that these elevated prices will persist until the arrival of new crops, prolonging the strain on household budgets. The community is calling for measures to ensure that vegetables remain affordable and accessible to all, especially amidst the current economic challenges.
