Swiss businessman Pankaj Oswal has lodged a formal complaint with the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) regarding the alleged wrongful imprisonment of his 26-year-old daughter, Vasundhara Oswal, in Uganda. The harrowing details of her detainment were shared in a recent social media post, showing the inhumane conditions she reportedly faced while in custody.

According to the post, Vasundhara Oswal was illegally detained by approximately 20 armed men on October 1, without any identification or warrant, from her extra-neutral alcohol (ENA) plant in Uganda. The men reportedly accused her of involvement in a man’s disappearance, but no formal charges were presented. The post also shared a disturbing image of a toilet covered in blood and faeces, indicating the deplorable conditions she was forced to endure.

Vasundhara’s father claims that she was confined in a small room surrounded by shoes for more than 90 hours. She was allegedly denied basic human needs, such as clean water and food, and was given only a small bench to rest on. Further, she was forced to participate in a questionable “parade” and was refused access to her family, lawyers, and even vegetarian food—despite repeated pleas.

The post has drawn widespread concern from international human rights organizations, with many calling for urgent action. EU Reporter has also highlighted the case, raising questions about the violation of Vasundhara’s fundamental rights. The Oswal family hopes that this complaint to the UN will prompt an investigation into the arbitrary detainment and lead to her immediate release.

This distressing situation underscores the importance of international intervention in cases of alleged wrongful imprisonment, particularly when individuals are denied their basic human rights and subjected to degrading treatment.
