The coastal city of Visakhapatnam is set to witness significant growth in the IT sector as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) prepares to establish its base at Millennium Towers in Rushikonda. Speaking at the Collectorate, IT Minister Nara Lokesh announced that TCS would initially operate with 2,000 employees in a transit facility while the State Government facilitates land for constructing new office spaces.

A Vision for an IT Capital

Minister Lokesh emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Visakhapatnam into the IT capital of Andhra Pradesh. He stated that more lands would be allocated for TCS and other IT giants, with discussions set to continue at the upcoming Davos summit. “Our government has introduced one of the best IT policies to attract large-scale investments and create job opportunities,” Lokesh said.

Criticism of the Previous Government

The Minister criticized the previous YSRCP government for neglecting North Andhra. “In five years, they failed to allocate land for the railway zone or focus on the IT sector. Their inaction caused significant setbacks,” he alleged.

He also dismissed YSRCP’s allegations about the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), reiterating that there was no intention to privatize the facility. “Although VSP faces financial difficulties, both the Centre and the State Government are supporting it,” Lokesh assured.

Progress Under the NDA Government

Highlighting the achievements of the NDA government, Lokesh said, “In just six months, we have reopened Anna Canteens, increased pensions, and relaunched the Deepam scheme. We are clearing the debts racked up by YSRCP with the Centre’s support.”

Future Plans

Lokesh reaffirmed the government’s dedication to providing a robust infrastructure for IT companies, ensuring that Visakhapatnam remains a preferred destination for investments. The Millennium Towers at Rushikonda is just the beginning of this vision.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is setting an ambitious course to position Andhra Pradesh (AP) as a major hub for emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and drone manufacturing. In a recent review meeting at the Secretariat, Naidu emphasized the need for policy reforms that align with the rapid technological advancements of today, unveiling plans to propel AP into the global technology spotlight.

The Chief Minister announced several key initiatives to advance AP’s role in the tech landscape:

  1. Visakhapatnam as IT Capital: Visakhapatnam will be developed as the state’s IT capital, enhancing its role as a premier destination for the tech industry.
  2. Anantapur for Drone Manufacturing: Recognizing the booming drone sector, Naidu proposed positioning Anantapur as a prime destination for drone manufacturing, inviting global and domestic firms to set up operations there.
  3. Sri City as a Semiconductor Hub: Sri City has been selected as the ideal location to nurture a semiconductor ecosystem, which will aid in the state’s economic growth and diversification by attracting investments in fabs, OSAT, ATMP, and compound semiconductor sectors.

In a follow-up social media post, CM Naidu outlined three forthcoming policies aimed at transforming AP’s technological infrastructure:

  • AP Semiconductor Fab 4.0 (2024-29): Targeted at attracting significant investment in semiconductor manufacturing, contributing to a self-sustaining tech ecosystem.
  • AP Data Centre Policy 4.0 (2024-29): Aiming to add 200 MW of capacity, this policy is focused on positioning AP as a leader in AI-driven data centers and data embassies.
  • AP Drone Policy: Set to launch at the Amaravati Drone Summit, this policy is designed to attract industry leaders in the drone sector to foster innovation and development.

Naidu’s initiatives reflect AP’s forward-thinking approach to the digital economy, fostering a vibrant ecosystem for deep-tech innovation. These steps are expected to not only transform Andhra Pradesh but also position it as a significant player on the global technology map.
